The first time babies poo it is a thick, greenish-black, tar-like substance called meconium. It is similar in appearance to Venom™️ and babies must expell it as a sign they are no longer symbiotes.

Submitted!! I am so thankful for the support and community I have been building over the past year as I go through the process to be a certified doula! I never imagined that I would be able to leave the food service industry for a career that leaves me feeling emotionally fulfilled and financially secure as quickly as I did. Helping people become parents and holding newborns is truly my life’s purpose.

As a doula I love helping educate the non-chest feeding parents so they can feel confident in being equal partners and take some stress off lactating parents. There’s not a home that wouldn’t benefit from non judgmental and hands on personalized newborn care education the first couple of weeks home with a new baby.

Butter chicken and 5 day old babies! I had hoped I could get the sauce done before he woke up but he started to fuss so into the baby carrier he went to snuggle up while I finished up cooking for the whole family and cleaned up the kitchen. Mom got as much sleep as an exclusively breastfeeding mama can get and has a fridge full of delicious food to nourish her with a clean kitchen to boot!

Last week I attended the longest labor I have been at as a doula to date at this hospital. I was with this amazing mom from 8am Thursday until 5pm Friday. We were all amazed that she was not pressured into having a cesarean section at all as time was passing with minimal dialation.

Baby was healthy the whole time and mom was tired but doing great, especially after having her epidural placed and a nap. Baby came out of the originally intended exit when she was good and ready, not a moment before. It was an honor to be on that team that really excelled at patient focused care.

6 years ago when I shared this post originally I went on a little rant about the phrase they used about helping women get through their labor quicker. As a doula I am here to help birthing people get through their labor empowered, educated, and as naturally and/or as painlessly as they wish.

For decades, there have been different methods suggested to help women get through their labor quicker.

My favorite part of the birth I just attended was mom taking my suggestion to put the Lion King soundtrack on to push. Circle of Life during the Ring of Fire phase is a great way to recenter your mind onto what exactly you’re doing this whole thing for. (Also I cried again 😅)

Note to self: get bigger jars. My first solo placenta encapsulation all done! It was a pleasure working with this incredible family and I’m so excited to deliver these capsules (and sweet umbilical cord keepsake) to this brave mama who is hopeful they will support her milk supply and mental health as she recovers from birth and starts this new chapter of motherhood.
