We’re excited to share that Envision Unlimited has received a grant from Norfolk Southern through its Safety First Grant Program! 🚂

This crucial support helps us provide greater access to automated external defibrillators, which could save our members’ lives in the event of cardiac emergencies.

It’s the season of giving thanks, and we’re grateful to Norfolk Southern, for helping us create a stronger, safer, and more resilient community.

Want to see our talented member artists in action? Come out to the Intuit Art Museum this Saturday, where Marcus and a few of his friends from our Westtown Center will lead a workshop on how to make “Recycl-o-ponies.” 👏👏

These horse sculptures made from recycled materials are always a hit with our members, and they make great sustainable stocking stuffers! 🧦 All ages are welcome!

Congratulations to our member Phil who just celebrated his 59th birthday at the Henry Home, our state-of-the-art, ADA-accessible home. 🥳 He has been receiving our services for 30 years and moved into his new residence over the summer.

Phil currently lives with three other roommates, fellow seniors with disabilities who want to age in place as their needs get more complex. A diehard Chicago sports fan, he has decorated his room with White Sox and Blackhawks banners. ⚾️🏒

“I like my staff. They help me,” he said of our dedicated Direct Support Professionals who remind him to keep his room clean, wash his clothes and other daily tasks.

When he’s not participating in community day programs, he can be found watching every Bears game or playing UNO with his roommates and staff. We look forward to watching Phil thrive and celebrate many more birthdays in his new home! 🎉

November is National Family Caregivers Month. At Envision Unlimited, we understand that caring for a loved one with a disability is no easy task. That’s why we offer in-home respite services.

Our program equips families with a trained individual who can spend time with their loved one. This allows you to catch up on regular daily activities, relaxation, etc. Over the past year, our team has provided nearly 13,000 hours of respite services for families, reducing caregiver burnout and allowing our members to remain at home without needing crisis services or institutionalization.

To learn more and discuss eligibility, contact our respite coordinator at 773-899-6177 or respiteinfo@envisionunlimited.org.

As National Disability Employment Awareness Month wraps up, we’re continuing to celebrate Envision Unlimited members who are experiencing success in the workplace.

Our member Cynthia recently retired after working with dining service company Chartwells for 11 years. 🎉 As a dining room attendant, she was committed to maintaining a clean space for local college students, and she enjoyed the close relationships she formed over the years.

The Chartwells family honored her with a retirement party for her hard work and dedication. Despite misconceptions, people with disabilities have proven to be exceptionally loyal and motivated employees with excellent problem-solving skills.

Congratulations to Cynthia and the rest of Envision Unlimited’s dedicated workers! 👏👏

As we gear up for the grand opening of our Springfield Community Mental Health Center, we’re taking a moment to celebrate our recovery support specialists (aka peer mentors)! 👏👏

These dedicated individuals use their lived experience with mental illness and/or substance abuse issues to provide invaluable support, guidance and understanding to those navigating challenging times and seeking recovery. In addition to clinical therapists and mental health specialists, our new Mental Health Center is staffed with peer mentors.

Thank you, mentors, for all you do! Your empathy and wisdom make a truly transformative impact. ✨

To celebrate National Disability Employment Awareness Month, we’re highlighting Envision Unlimited members who are thriving in the workplace. One of them is Robert at our Nashville Center, who landed his dream job with the Chicago Cubs this summer and handled janitorial work a few days per week. He even took the bus independently to Wrigley Field. 👏👏

“I couldn’t wait to tell my job coach and staff at Nashville what they said,” Robert said. “I really like the job. We joke and play a lot. I have a lot of new friends too.”

Congratulations to Robert and thanks to the Cubs for recognizing the value in hiring people with disabilities! He hopes to return next season! 🎉

According to recent research, Sangamon County ranks among the worst 25% within Illinois for mental health hospitalizations. Plenty of barriers to treatment exist for the entire community, especially our most vulnerable.

That’s why we opened one of Springfield’s first Certified Community Mental Health Centers. Stop by our public grand opening next Thursday to commemorate this new community resource! Guests can enjoy music, snacks and giveaways as well as easily schedule an appointment for a future visit.

Mental health is not a privilege; it’s a right. We hope to see you there!
