Five Keys Yoga Yoga for the Whole Family: Traditional Yoga Classes, Yoga for All Abilities, and Yoga Therapy

Our traditional hatha yoga classes feature fun sequences to challenge the body, but ultimately our work is to teach our students how to develop greater control over their own minds. We strive to provide compassionate, evidence-based yoga classes and Yoga Therapy services, which nurture our yoga students and Yoga Therapy clients. Our studio welcomes students with a variety of needs, as we believe yoga is a practice from which anyone can benefit, adaptable to any limitation.

What is your approach to teaching?
I want to teach yoga in an accessible way, through a trauma-sensitive lens. I want my students to feel safe and empowered to connect with their body through movement and breath. I hope to foster that connection in any class that I teach.

Headstand is a fun pose to master. But before we learn to stand on our head, we have to learn how to stand on our two feet.

Yoga teaches us how to be aware of our actions, words, and thoughts with the aim of becoming fully in control of them. It’s much easier to control physical things like the way we move than it is to control our words and especially, our thoughts.

Renata, a teacher and mentor in the 5KY community, began practicing Yoga with her mother, Sonia Sumar, when she was only three years old. As a child, Renata took part in numerous Yoga courses with her mother, and at the age of twelve, she completed her first Hatha Yoga Teacher Training Program at Brazil's Federal University at Minas Gerais (UFMG).

By the age of fifteen, she had started teaching Hatha Yoga herself, driven by her passion for anatomy, neurology, physics, and physiology - all of which have informed her teaching style and approach to this day. With her mother, Sonia, Renata shares the teachings of Yoga For All Abilities®, and 5KY offers YAA Trainings annually!
