You may be feeling overwhelmed, greatly distressed, and even hopeless by what you are witnessing on the news, perhaps in your own city, to your community, your neighbors. There is no denying that the world, the country, is a scary place right now, and you may be at a loss for words or actions. Some days you may do more, some you may do less. Some action, some rest, both are important.
We offer today a small yet still powerful opportunity to stand up against hate, to focus on love, to spread Ahimsa - non-violence, non-harming. Peace. Ahimsa is the first of the Yamas, the Yamas the first Limb of Yoga. We offer a prayer for peace you can speak internally or externally.
Take a few minutes, breathe, come back to yourself, your values, your humanity. Cultivate kindness, spread love, do not get comfortable with inaction, do not give in to hopelessness. Take care of yourself so you can take care of others, those without a voice. Use your voice, even if it does not feel like anybody is listening.
We hear you. We see you. We love you. Plant your seeds. Feel the love ripple outwards, everywhere.
Lokah Samastah Sukhino Bhavantu
May all beings everywhere be happy and free, and may the thoughts, words, and actions of my own life contribute in some way to that happiness and to that freedom for all.
