Access to mental health isn’t enough. For many young men, there are real barriers preventing them from feeling seen, understood, and supported.

These include:

1. Stigma: 75% of Black men experience mental health challenges but often go untreated due to stigma

2. Lack of representation: Only 5% of the psychological workforce identifies as Black and of that, 17% identified as male according to the American Psychological Association (1 in 100 workers are Black men).

3. Limited access to the right type of care: 56 - 74% of Black men with trauma have unmet mental health needs, and only 26% can access services.

We create safe, culturally grounded spaces where young people can heal, grow, and be themselves.

If there’s a young man in your life who could benefit from support, we’re here to help. Let’s connect today at https://zurl.co/HphzM.

When we come together to support our youth, we will see REAL change.🤝🏾

We recently partnered with the Annie E. Casey Foundation as part of the Applied Leadership Network (ALN) to discuss better outcomes for our justice impacted/involved youth.

We discussed prevention, community support and creating safe spaces for youth (and their families) to be successful at home, in school and in their communities. We also discussed the importance of equity and culturally responsive support.

We're grateful to not only be part of these conversation, but also to be in the room creating solutions that strengthen our communities and get our young boys and men to the support they need.

Sometimes it's hard to say "I'm not ok" or to say what you need. Emotional safety isn't something to young men, and expressing themselves could feel impossible.

Remember- you don't need all the answers. A calm conversation, a patient response, or simply making space for them to talk can make a bigger difference than we realize. Boys need emotional safety too.

Feeling understood makes all the difference.

For many young people and men, opening up is already difficult. It becomes even harder when support feels disconnected from their lived experiences or doesn’t reflect who they are.

Care should feel human. It should feel familiar. It should feel like someone truly gets it.

When people feel seen, they are more likely to stay, engage, and heal.

If you know someone who needs assistance, we're here.

Imagine if someone continues to label you as "bad," "undeserving," or "dumb"... at some point you begin to believe it. With majority of young men in the juvenile system actually having mental health disorders, we should begin to look at not only what is laying beneath the surface, but the words we are placing on them.

Words have meaning. Let’s talk about it in the comments. 💡
