Happy 2025! It’s gonna be a great year - Bears are undefeated, spring is only 7 months away, and we are hosting a Meet & Greet on Wednesday, January 22 at 6pm.

If you are having a baby and wondering what that’s all about, come and meet some of our pediatricians and see the office! We will answer questions, give you food, and talk about what to expect from birth through the first year.

Tell a friend, tell an enemy, we don’t care we will see everybody! This is literally the most important thing that is ever going to happen !

Congratulations to our fabulous nurse Marisa, who got married last night! In this picture, she’s the one in the white dress, and if you’ve had the fortune of interacting with her in the office, you know that Marisa is a ray of light in what is otherwise a dark, dour place to work.

It should come as no surprise to you that the office will be closed on Thanksgiving.

We wish all of you a lovely, stress-free holiday. If conversation gets too heated or you can’t deal with another Bears heartbreak, you can always show your company our inaugural episode of Tot Ones - a show where we talk about baby topics while eating even babier foods.

In Episode 1 Drs. Calway and Goldstein discuss baby sleep, and try puréed carrots, puffs, and Pad Thai.

The beginning of November is a dull time, where not much of interest happens. We are hoping to change that! Join Drs. Adhikari and Bensko on Wednesday, November 6 at 6pm for a discussion all about puberty!

This session is intended for 9-11 year old patients of the practice assigned female at birth. Parents are welcome too! There is no cost, but please register in advance (see banner at www.nwcppediatrics.com) as space is limited.

Food will be provided. You may be aware that Dr. Adhikari has a Taco Bell problem. If enough of you express your desire in the comments, maybe that food will be Taco Bell? Either way, normal food will be there too.

On October 9, 1999 Cindy Chavez started at NWCP as a doe-eyed receptionist. Dr. Unger was a new mom, Dr. Hirsh had just passed her drivers license test (4th try), and Drs. Blegen, Bensko, and Calway hadn’t even been born yet.

Twenty five years later, Cindy is our office manager , but she’s also more than that. She’s our friend, our therapist, an incredible advocate for both patients and employees, and, most importantly, the person who knows what kinds of foods we like for when people bring us lunch.

Today we celebrate 25 years , and remind her that her contract is for 100 years so she still has lots of work to do.

We’re thinking this is not just a regular Tuesday! First, Happy Bday to Dr. Calway (shown here in his Second Life avatar, which we found because he never logs out of his work computer).

Second, today is the start of RSV shot season. This shot is recommended for all babies from birth up to 8 months old, unless mom received the vaccine more than 2 weeks prior to delivery.

RSV shots are available for patients of the practice at scheduled checkups , or by appointment. Don’t forget for flu shots you can walk in M-F at noon, or any Saturday in October from 9-11am. Same walk-in hours for Covid shots for children over 5 years. RSV shots and Covid shots for children under 5 cannot be given during walk-in hours.

Most of the NWCP providers hitting the town tonight! The top 7 doctors are at the Lurie Children’s Staff meeting , where nobody will talk to them and where Dr Sharma is getting an award for 25 years with Lurie. The NP’s are at their weekly bowling league (team name IV League, currently 11th place).

Drs. Adhikari and Hirsh were rocking out in the Pediatricians for Pearl Jam section at Wrigley last night (it’s a pretty small area).

Although they can’t agree on who the best drummer is (Dr. Hirsh says Dave Abbruzzese while Dr. Adhikari says Matt Cameron hands down), they do both want you to know the office will be closed on Monday, September 2. We are open on Saturday and Sunday though , so come on in. Otherwise it’ll just be us (alone, restless), and a breakfast table in an otherwise empty room.

Our NWCP family is one bigger this week-Congratulations to Cara and Grant on the birth of Jake Thomas! Rumor has it that they were going to name him Jack (after his dad’s biceps) , but there was some sort of clerical error.

Anyhow, our wish for little Jake is that his rizz is always W, and never skibidi Ohio. But even if it is, he’ll still have the coolest, rizziest pediatrician in town.

Around this time of year most years, we make elaborate videos about the flu vaccine. Because of the writers/actors strike , we were on our own this year. Flu vaccines can now be scheduled on MyChart or by calling the office, and will also be given at well child visits. They are recommended for everyone over age 6 months. There are two forms of the vaccine - a shot for everyone over 6 months, and a nasal spray for children 2 years and up. We currently only have the shot, but we will update here and on our website when we get the nasal spray. You can also bring your child in on Saturday, September 16 between 9-11am without an appointment for a flu shot. If this is the first time your child is getting a flu shot and they are under 9 years old, they should get 2 doses at least 1 month apart. Flu shots are now available for everyone over age 6 months. They can be given at well visits , or by calling the office to schedule. We do not have the nasal spray yet, but will update here when it comes in. If your child is under 9 years old and has never had a flu vaccine before , they should have 2 doses at least 1 months apart. If your child has an egg allergy they can still receive a flu shot. Sorry that we didn’t go big this year with the video , but nobody really cares what we do anyway.

It’s Dr. Calway’s first day, and you could say that he came in like a Bear… We hope you all get to meet him soon!

Who needs Steve Martin? We’ve got Dr. Unger to play us into the weekend ! We hope you all have a great one - we’ll be here sprucing up the office for the arrival of our new doctor - Dr. Tyler Calway starts on Monday! If you see him tell him “Hi!” and then ask him why he’s talking to you b/c he’s not getting paid to stand around chatting.

Folks we double promise pinky swear that we will update you about covid vaccines for under 5 as soon as we can - it will be several more days at least. In the meantime we have another exciting announcement- we had our New Doctor Reveal and found out that we’re having a boy! Dr. Tyler Calway is currently finishing his residency at Stanford, and will start here in July. He graduated from the University of Chicago , and received his MD from Chicago Medical School. Dr. Calway was born and raised on the East Coast and spent a few years on the West Coast, but has found that the Midwest is decidedly the best coast. He is moving from Palo Alto with his wife and two boys. He doesn’t know it yet, but Dr. Calway is also about to be a reluctant participant in our videos. We hope you will welcome him, and potentially show him around the office and introduce him to people, because we are gonna be super busy with this covid shot thing .

In case you missed her at Green City market last weekend , Dr. Unger will be back this Saturday! Because the City of Chicago, and it’s beautiful people , demand it.
