"...so much of social transformation happens in healing. And that work, again, can be done with oneself, with small community, with large community. And there's no one right way to do it.

Healing work happens if you're trying, then you're doing."

As humans, we all experience grief emotions around painful life events, transitions and losses. In our westernized world we often minimize expressing our grief and tending to it in a healthy way, and many of us feel isolated and crave being in community with people who are also grieving. We invite you to join us for a grief-centered gentle, affirming yoga and reflection practice co-led by Room to Breathe yoga teacher and therapist, Erica, and therapist, Margy.

This virtual event will combine movement with moments for reflection and journaling around the following themes: normalizing grief emotions and experiences, reflecting on how and where we feel and hold grief emotions in our body, and offering space and opportunity for release and renewal in community with others.

We encourage you to come as you are, take what’s useful, leave the rest, and enjoy connection with a community of those who are navigating grief; no prior experience with yoga needed!

Ever feel like you don't fit into the stereotypical version of "wellness" or healing spaces?

Same.

In their article for our blog, our newest team member Shannon affirms that nervous system regulation isn't one size fits all through personal perspective, an overview of polyvagal theory, and reflection prompts.

In this episode of Coffee Chats, Ramya talks with Whitney Pasch, C-IAYT and lead trainer of our Psych-Sensitive Yoga Teacher Training about our upcoming training program: why we lead with trauma sensitivity (rather than just offering a module or lecture on it), what we offer that might be different from other training programs, and who might benefit from training with us.

Whitney has been a ✨️dream✨️ to co-create our program with this year; if you've been thinking about applying we hope this episode provides some insight!

➕️ Whitney leads our YTT Info Session on Tuesday July 8th - you'll be guided through a brief practice, plus some education around the program with time for Q&A. Link in bio to attend (it's free!).

Going Deeper is our 25-hour training immersion for yoga practitioners, current yoga teachers, and teachers in training to explore yoga beyond asana. Alongside our Psych-Sensitive Teacher Training Cohort, you'll dive into study of the ancient roots, philosophy, and psychology of yoga from a psych-sensitive viewpoint (without committing to a whole teacher training!)

This year, you can join us by signing up for the entire 25-hour program or you can sign up for individual workshops that interest you/fit your schedule. As we say often, there's always an option.

Going Deeper lectures include:
🌼 The Limbs of Yoga: A Network of Support
🌼 Practical Pranayama: Breathing as Medicine
🌼 Intro to the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali
🌼 Intro to Ayurveda
🌼 Intro to Mudra: Gestures of the Heart + Mind
🌼 History and Essence of the Chakra System
🌼 Mantra: Embodied Sound & the 5 Koshas

Welcome, Shannon, to the Room to Breathe team! 🎉

Shannon (they/she) is a queer-identifying therapist with roots in punk, skateboarding, and underground music spaces, who offers a nonjudgmental space where difference is honored, not pathologized.

They work with people navigating identity, grief, self-doubt, and emotional overwhelm—especially those who feel disconnected, out of step, or misunderstood. Their approach is relational, narrative, and psychodynamic, with a deep respect for the early experiences and stories that shape how we see ourselves. Together with Shannon, you'll explore where those beliefs came from, and what new story you might want to tell.

Head to our stories to hear from Shannon, and visit our website to learn more about them: https://www.roomtobreathechicago.com/shannon-shreibak
