This can start with grieving and honoring our loved ones who have died. Come join Margy Brill, LCSW, to sit in your grief and be present with yourself and others in community during Margy's workshop, Stitching the Wound: Caring for Ourselves in Grief on Sunday, May 17th. This two-hour online offering includes education and tools, group and individual reflection + processing, and somatic practices to help you tend to, navigate, and care for your grief.

Sharing this today in honor of Grief-in-Public day, which took place this past Sunday to raise awareness about our global grief crisis. "By creating grief-accepting spaces in public we begin to change the cultural narrative about where grief expression is acceptable." πŸ’™ https://annualgriefinpublicday.com/

Have you ever turned to AI for therapeutic support? No judgement here - we understand there are many barriers to therapy, from finances to time to insurance, and beyond.

However, it might be worth getting curious about your relationship to this technology and what it's actually providing you - and what it's not.

Emma's blog offers a shame-free perspective on what therapy (and human therapists!) provides that AI simply can't - and perhaps that perspective can bring more awareness and insight to how you engage with this technology, if you choose to do so.

A simple practice for tryin' times.

This practice might be useful if you're feeling activated, scattered, or stressed, or if you notice your breathing is shallow. This practice supports down-regulation, and you might observe that your heart rate is slower, your body feels more relaxed, and/or your mind feels a bit more clear or calm.

There's no magic number (in spite of what you might hear, lookin' at you 4-7-8) - simply allow your exhale to be a little longer in duration than your inhale, whatever duration works for you, in a way that feels comfortable and not forced.

This practice might not be for you if you don't like working with the breath, or if attention to your breath causes intense emotions. You're not alone in feeling like that! Alternative practices could look like sighing out of your mouth or humming, both of which support a lengthened exhale, without solely having your attention on your breath.

Let us know if you took this mini practice today!

Sam asked: What should clinicians going into group practice be thinking about or considering as they are looking at practices in Chicago?

This Coffee Chat between our therapist Sam and RTB owner Sara Buxton gets into the business side of private practice: the challenges in hiring, current shifts in the mental health workforce, what RTB offers clinicians, and general advice for therapists looking to become part of a private practice.

This ep might be for you if:
✨you’re a recent grad navigating the job pool
✨you’re a solo therapist looking to make a switch into group practice
✨you’re a practice owner with these same questions and challenges

Room to Breathe therapist & yoga guide *and* Chicago Abortion Fund's board co-chair (!!) Hannah Lee is raising funds for Chicago Abortion Fund's annual Fund-A-Thon and invites you to join her!

Sunday, April 12th, 7-8pm CST, Hannah will lead a restorative yoga practice focused on giving us space to rest and recharge amidst our fight for a more just world. Cost is on a sliding scale of $18-30 to register and attend, with half of all proceeds going to Hannah's goal of raising $6,000 for abortion access. Registrants will have access to the recording if you can’t attend in real time!

The mission of the Chicago Abortion Fund is to advance reproductive autonomy and justice for everyone by providing financial, logistical, and emotional support to people seeking abortion services in Illinois and by building collective power and fostering partnerships for political and cultural change. Last year, CAF fielded nearly 20,000 calls for support – representing people based in 40+ states – and distributed $10 million to directly break down barriers to access.

Practice the yoga of action with us. Let's join together and show up for abortion access together! πŸ’ͺ

While we ask all of our therapists to be skilled in specific areas of focus like relationships, trauma, life stages, and identity, as well as a wide range of diagnoses/concerns like anxiety and mood disorders, sometimes you're seeking a therapist that has additional training and expertise in those areas.

Here are some of our specialties - those areas of focus that may be a little more specific to what you're looking to explore in therapy.

Ready to explore therapy? Connect with our therapists on our website: https://www.roomtobreathechicago.com/contact-therapists

We look forward to supporting you. πŸ’›

BTS of our birthday gathering, celebrating our ✨️13th✨️ year!

It was such a delight to gather together for treats from Goddess and the Baker (how ! cute ! are those mini cakes!), new staff and office photos from the delightful (yay!), and time together as a community therapists/yoga guides/humans providing trauma-informed care work in an ever changing world.

We've navigated many changes as well - and there's always more change to come - but this time spent together was a grounding reminder that we're connected and supported even in times of hardship and transition. We look forward to continuing to grow and change with you. We are, after all, a teenager now! πŸ˜‰
