Black musicians have had an immense impact on American music and culture, with some playing a role in the normalization of cannabis. We teamed up with to showcase 5 Black musicians who have normalized cannabis through music.

1) Snoop Dogg is one of the most iconic rappers of our time and has played a major role in normalizing cannabis use through his music by consistently referencing and celebrating the plant in his lyrics. He even went on to launch his own brand of cannabis products called "Leafs by Snoop," further solidifying his position in the industry.

2) Bob Marley is often regarded as one of the pioneers of cannabis culture in music. His songs, such as "Kaya" and "Easy Skanking," are filled with references to the plant, and his Rastafarian faith's spiritual use of cannabis. Marley's music and advocacy for cannabis helped to spread the message of its benefits worldwide.

3) Billie Holiday was another jazz legend who embraced cannabis and its culture in her music. Her song "Gimme a Pigfoot (And a Bottle of Beer)" includes the memorable line "bring me re**er, lots of re**er," which was controversial at the time. Holiday's use of cannabis was a way for her to cope with the hardships of her life, and her references about it in her music helped to reduce the stigma around cannabis.

4) Cab Calloway, a jazz icon from the 1930s, may not be as well-known for his contributions to cannabis normalization as some of the other artists on this list. However, his song "Re**er Man" is a classic example of jazz musicians celebrating the plant in their music. Calloway's performance of the song in the 1933 film "International House" is still remembered today as a defining moment in the history of cannabis in music.

5) Louis Armstrong, one of the most influential jazz musicians of all time, was known for his love of cannabis. In fact, he was arrested for cannabis possession in 1930, long before the herb's decriminalization. Armstrong's use of cannabis was often reflected in his music, with references to the plant in songs like "Muggles" and "Viper's Drag." Armstrong's willingness to embrace cannabis publicly helped to break down inaccurate stereotypes.
