Grandparents are everyday heroes!

At PTN, we recognize the invaluable role grandparents play in the lives of little ones. Their love, wisdom, and encouragement support growth, strengthen family bonds, and create cherished memories.

Let’s take this day (it is National Grandparents' Day after all) to honor and thank all grandparents for the special part they play in helping children thrive.

Open a book and let your imagination fly… it's National Read a Book Day!

To celebrate, why not try a “story scavenger hunt” at home?

As you read with your child, look for everyday objects that match things in the book. For example, if the story mentions a ball, find one in the toy bin; if there’s a cat, look for a stuffed animal kitty. This fun, hands-on game helps little ones connect words to real-life objects, boosts speech, and makes reading extra exciting!

Encourage your child to practice talking about their day each evening. Ask open-ended questions like, “What was your favorite part of school today?” or “Did anything surprise you?”

This simple routine helps build language skills, vocabulary, and confidence in expressing feelings. Plus, it opens up great conversations to stay connected and support your child’s communication skills.

Back to school means new routines—and that can be tricky for some kids! To help your child transition smoothly, try setting up a "calming corner" at home.

Fill it with their favorite books, soft pillows, or calming toys where they can take a break whenever they feel overwhelmed or need a moment to recharge. Teaching kids to recognize when they need a break builds emotional awareness that helps them thrive at school and beyond.

Happy Friendship Day!

As the new school year begins, so do new opportunities—for learning, growing, and making friends!

At PTN, we know how important friendships are for a child’s confidence and emotional development. Going back to school can feel overwhelming, but a friendly face and a kind word can go a long way. Here are a few simple ways to help your child build new friendships this school year:

1. Practice Listening Skills: Encourage your child to ask questions and listen when others speak. Being a good listener helps kids feel connected and shows they care.

2. Take the First Step: Encourage your child to be the one to invite a classmate to join an activity or sit together at lunch. Taking initiative, even in small ways, can help break the ice and start new friendships.

3. Lead with Kindness: A smile, a compliment, or a simple “Do you want to play with me?” can make someone’s day—and spark a new friendship.

Friendship helps kids feel safe, seen, and supported at school. Let’s make sure every child heads into the year knowing they belong.
