Yoga with Gopi Om "Reduce your wants and lead a happy and contented life. Never hurt the feelings of others and be kin

Nicole first discovered yoga by chance and was instantly intrigued. She attended her first teacher training with the sole intention of learning more about the practice, but discovered that she loved the teachings of yoga too much to keep them to herself and began teaching in 2005. Shortly after, her practice grew immensely due to the discovery and subsequent influence of her beloved teacher, Sri Dharma Mittra. Nicole has completed her advanced level (500 hour) teacher training in New York with Sri Dharma and feels blessed to have received and to pass on his teachings. She strives to live every moment as an offering to the divine and to pass on the teachings of yoga as they have been generously passed on to her. A believer in the power of yoga as a lifestyle, Nicole feels that a playful yoga practice enables a person to approach the more mundane aspects of life with a lighter heart and a more accepting attitude. Her yogic journey has played a big role in her life and she feels lucky to have the opportunity to share that journey with others. Nicole lives with her family of rescued cats and pit bull dogs. She is a fan of the fruit market, pet rescue, The Bhagavad Gita, and vegan cookies.

Somehow I, a Gopi, failed to be aware that the 1st was World Cow Day! But Iโ€™m going to try to make up for it with these photos of Veera, the cow who I sponsor at . Veera and her son were rescued earlier this year after Hanuman, the bull that I previously sponsored, passed away. I was able to help name her and suggested Veera because itโ€™s a heroโ€™s name that she earned by bravely keeping her baby alive in terrible circumstances prior to her rescue. Also, Vera was my grandmaโ€™s name. ๐Ÿ’–

Swami Yati-ji is coming back to Illinois! He will be conducting a weekend-long retreat for a very small group at my home in Galesburg including meditation, kirtan, transformative yoga nidra, and even a little Indian cooking! Learn how a Himalayan Swami lives by spending time with one. If you havenโ€™t met Swami-ji before, he is extremely personable, happy to answer your questions, and lovely to be around. If you are interested in attending, please let me know. The cost for the weekend includes food, lodging, and all practice sessions. You will not regret joining us! ๐Ÿงก Photos from the last retreat, now 3 years ago!

I made a post in the online group recently that I am taking a break from teaching regular classes for a bit. I plan to take a little time to wrap my mind around where my efforts are best spent. I have been teaching yoga in various forms and locations for over 20 years now, so it feels weird to โ€œtake a break,โ€ but Iโ€™m excited to see where it leads. In the meantime, Iโ€™m still teaching monthly at Bluprint (this Sunday at 10am) and I am hosting a retreat with Swami Yatidharmananda in Galesburg September 5-7 (message me if youโ€™d like to join as space is super limited). โ˜€๏ธ

Yoga says that life is like a play or a movie. We are all playing a part, but we donโ€™t realize it. When we think the play is real, our emotions are tied to the actions. We hate the antagonist and love the protagonist, we are terrified, we are joyful, we are caught up in waves of ever-changing emotions created by external conditions. After Self Realization, we are still in the play, but now we know that we are there acting. We fulfill our role, but we can enjoy the play for what it is. Imagine you went to see a movie and didnโ€™t know it was all an act? That is our life. But only once we see the truth can we fully appreciate the play for what it is and see every contribution as an important part of the whole. ๐Ÿ’•
