A whole month of practice… and today she TRILLED that R!

My student used to say “d” and “l” for “R” which made her speech hard to understand.
But with steady work and the right cues… her /r/ is finally here. 🫶🏽💪🏽

Before we ever touch words, I always focus on the 4 fundamentals of trill /r/: placement, relaxation/airflow, vibration, and then production.
It’s the key to real progress.🙌

Another language added to the caseload?
Say less. I’m ready to learn.

Instead of feeling intimidated or overwhelmed, I feel excited.

Excited to learn.
Excited to collaborate.
Excited to hear another language in my therapy room.

Being a bilingual SLP has taught me this: a new language on your caseload isn’t a barrier, it’s an opportunity.

An opportunity to grow your clinical skills.
An opportunity to partner with families.
An opportunity to see the world through another cultural lens.

This is the mindset we should all develop when working with multilingual students.

We don’t have to know the language to respect it, honor it, and serve our students well. We just have to be willing to learn. 🌎❤️

Last year, Liliana volunteered as a SLP and as a mom of a child who stutters.

But seriously, his presence and words at the Grammys were EVERYTHING. Not only did he make history, but he used his moment on the world’s biggest stage to say something deeper & advocate!

✨ Why culturally & linguistically relevant therapy matters ⬇️

• Kids learn best when they see themselves reflected
• Culture-based materials increase engagement + motivation
• Students feel valued, included, and empowered
• Therapy becomes meaningful, not just compliant

AND It’s OK for children to learn about other cultures, beliefs, and traditions

Exposure builds empathy and encourages children to recognize that there are many valid ways of thinking, but most importantly, it gives them a broader understanding of the world around them ♥️
