As mass deportations threaten the safety and stability of migrant families, now is the time to stand in solidaridad with our students.

Here’s how we can help👇🏽

✨ Create safe, trauma-informed spaces.
✨ Validate and uplift home languages.
✨ Protect student confidentiality.
✨ Be mindful of triggering topics or questions.
✨ Provide consistent routines and predictability.
✨ Connect families to trusted resources.
✨ Advocate. Speak up at your school/district level.

We don’t always have all the answers, but we can be a safe adult, a caring listener, and an ally.

🌟Supporting bilinguals means embracing both sound systems!

Bilingual speakers have access to two phonetic inventories, and their speech patterns may reflect influences from both languages.

💡 Before labeling a speech pattern as a ‘disorder,’ we must determine if it’s a true difference influenced by their language backgrounds. A bilingual child’s pronunciation might be shaped by the phonetic rules of both languages—this is not a disorder, but a natural part of bilingual development!

⚠️ So before you write a speech goal for a nonshared sound, make sure you check to see if it’s a natural speech pattern influenced by the student’s native language.

If it’s NOT a typical production pattern then its ok to work on it in therapy 👍
