How to stay healthy during intervals of celebration or seasonal change? Dr. Felty, our naturopathic doctor, recently completed a post-holiday cleanse. Follow her story to learn more (or save this as your personal “reset button” for any time of year).
I do 3 cleanses per year: post holiday, mid-summer, and fall. Why? It supports your body to heal itself, restore function, and reverse damage. We overload our bodies with food, alcohol, sugar, and stress. Allowing the body to rest and digest a few times per year let’s it reset and clear out an accumulation of fat and toxins. It is self care for the mind, body, and spirit.
My office is doing a post holiday cleanse together this year which includes multivitamin protein smoothies, supplements, meal plan guides, and grocery shopping lists. I add extra stuff into my protein shakes for added nutrition and fuel. In the morning, I add beets, chard, kale, cilantro, parsley, turmeric, cinnamon, apple, pear, avocado, and olive oil. For dinner, I add celery, kale, turmeric, cilantro, parsley, and olive oil.
Olive oil adds good omega 3s to the smoothie but also makes it extra creamy. I add collagen to support my bones and joints while resting from the gym all week. I change up ingredients every few days to get varied vitamins and minerals. Then, after 2 days of shakes and supplements, you add 1 clean meal (vegetable stir fry and avocado) for the remainder of the cleanse. The guide also helps you journal and meditate while cleansing. For the week after the cleanse, veggies only and detox boosting foods. I’m at day 5 and feel amazing!
