When faced with an endometrial cancer diagnosis, the path forward can feel uncertain and isolating. Yet two women, Shanda and Janette, turned that life-changing moment into something bigger than themselves.

Shanda transformed her experience into advocacy, determined to raise awareness, challenge systemic barriers, and help ensure women everywhere have access to education and support.

Janette turned to writing as a way to process and empower. Her book, “Endometrial Cancer at 65: Why Me, Why Not Me,” encourages early detection and reminds women to prioritize their health and listen to their bodies.

Though their journeys are unique, their courage and voices echo a shared message: resilience can fuel advocacy, and advocacy can spark hope for everyone impacted by gynecologic cancers.

Uterine/endometrial cancer is the most common gynecologic cancer, yet its early warning signs can be easy to miss or mistaken for other changes in the body. With early detection, 85% of those diagnosed survive.

Knowing what’s normal for your body and what isn’t can be lifesaving. While one of the most important signs to watch for is bleeding after menopause, uterine cancer does not only affect postmenopausal women. Other symptoms — like abnormal or heavy periods, watery or blood-tinged discharge, and pelvic pain or pressure — can also signal that something isn’t right at any age.

This Gynecologic Cancer Awareness Month, we encourage you to — your mother, sister, friend, daughter, or even yourself — if you've noticed any unusual bleeding and talked to your doctor about it.

Awareness leads to action. Action leads to early detection. And early detection saves lives.

For Linda Ryan, tapping into her love of exercise after a cervical cancer diagnosis was a source of strength and peace of mind. As a survivor she champions movement as a powerful tool for healing and thriving beyond treatment.

At just 27 years old Samantha was first diagnosed with cervical cancer. Now a three-time survivor, Samantha reminds us that grace matters. Her message to others facing cancer: self-compassion and patience will take you further than pressure ever will.

Both Linda and Samantha show us that every journey is different, but hope, resilience, and community can light the way forward. Read their full stories along with other survivors https://foundationforwomenscancer.org/gcam/stories-education/

Awareness saves lives 🤍

Almost all cases are caused by HPV, making cervical cancer highly preventable through vaccination and screening.

This Gynecologic Cancer Awareness Month, we encourage you to — your mother, sister, friend, daughter, or yourself:

⚪ Do you know the signs?
⚪ Are you up to date on Pap or HPV tests?
⚪ Have you had the HPV vaccine?
⚪ Do you know your family history?

Knowledge and action save lives. With the right information, at the right time, you can protect yourself and the women you love. Together, we can prevent cervical cancer.

Jacqueline was just 30 years old when her uterine cancer diagnosis changed everything. For over a year, her symptoms were dismissed, but she trusted her body and persisted until she received answers. Today, she is cancer free, a mother of two, and a health coach using her story to inspire others.

Race Weekend 2025 was one for the books!

💜 Patient advocates, survivors, caregivers, and healthcare professionals joined forces at the Patient & Advocacy Summit.
💜 More than 100 attendees gathered for a day of education and empowerment at our Patient & Advocate Forum.
💜 Over 800 participants ran, walked, and rolled through Washington, D.C. (and virtually!) for the Race to End Women’s Cancer.

Awareness begins with a question 💜
When it comes to gynecologic cancers, asking simple questions can save lives.

This Gynecologic Cancer Awareness Month, we encourage you to — your mother, sister, friend, daughter, or yourself:
🔹 Do you know the signs?
🔹 When was your last check-up?
🔹 Are you up to date on Pap or HPV tests?
🔹 Have you had the HPV vaccine?
🔹 Do you know your family history?

Not all gynecologic cancers have screening tests — that’s why awareness matters.

The right question, at the right time, could save a life. Swipe through the carousel to see the questions. Then .

We also thank our keynote, Annie Ellis, for her powerful discussion on the importance of patient advocacy and the role of the patient voice.
