You may not realize it, but time is one of our greatest commodities.
Our brains are constantly moving between projecting into the future or reminiscing about the past. Research suggests we spend nearly half of our waking hours not fully present! This is a leftover of evolution where anticipating danger and learning from the past helped keep us safe.
That same wiring now pulls us away from what is actually happening.
It steals presence.
It steals ease.
It steals joy.
And none of this means you are doing anything wrong.
Mindfulness has become a popular buzzword, but its impact is very real and worth practicing. At its core, mindfulness simply brings your attention back to the present moment.
When attention returns to now, the nervous system has an opportunity to regulate, creating more space for calm, gratitude, and joy.
This is why travel feels so good. Novel experiences naturally pull us into our senses. We are seeing, hearing, tasting, and noticing more. Time feels fuller because we are actually in it.
Ways to return to the present moment:
• Name five things you can see, hear, or feel in your body
• Slow your exhale and allow your shoulders to drop
• Do one ordinary activity with full attention, without multitasking
Presence is not about doing more.
It is about being here for the time you already have. ❤️
