Sometimes, the last thing we want to do is forgive someone. Yet, as therapists, we know that conversations around forgiveness and boundaries are vital for emotional healing and personal growth. These processes are what help us get from the tension toward growth in our relationships.
Forgiveness does not always mean reconciliation—it’s about releasing our grip on what we cannot control, and shifting our focus toward what we can. This is where boundaries come into play. Throughout the process of forgiveness, our boundaries may shift and change as they are meant to support and protect our well-being. Together, boundaries and forgiveness move us toward honoring self-respect and inner peace.
