🐝🌼 Staying Safe During Bee Season
As warm weather lingers, bees are more active, and while they’re great for the environment, stings can be uncomfortable (and dangerous for those with allergies).

Here are a few tips to protect yourself:
✅ Avoid wearing strong fragrances outdoors
✅ Cover food and drinks when eating outside
✅ Wear light-colored clothing and closed-toe shoes
✅ Stay calm—don’t swat at bees if they come near
✅ Carry your EpiPen if you have a known allergy

The Saint Xavier University Health Center is here for students, staff, and the community. If you have concerns about stings or allergies, schedule an appointment with us today, (773) 298-3712

📢 Rising Tuberculosis Cases in Illinois

We've been hearing about an increase in TB cases across Illinois. Here's what you need to know:

🏫 Joliet West High School
A student was recently diagnosed with active TB. Health officials have implemented measures to prevent further transmission.

🏫 Waukegan High School
An individual associated with the school was confirmed to have active TB. The Lake County Health Department is overseeing the response.

🦠 What is Tuberculosis?
TB is an airborne infectious disease that primarily affects the lungs but can impact other parts of the body. It spreads when an infected person coughs or sneezes, releasing bacteria into the air.

❗ Common Symptoms of TB:
💨 Persistent cough lasting 3+ weeks
💥 Chest pain
🩸 Coughing up blood
😴 Fatigue
⚖️ Unintended weight loss
🌡️ Fever and night sweats

👨‍⚕️ Seeking Medical Attention
If you or someone you know is showing symptoms or has been exposed to TB, it's important to consult a healthcare provider immediately. Early detection and treatment are essential to prevent further spread.
