Congratulations to Dr. William Mieler for being elected the next President of the American Ophthalmological Society (AOS)! This prestigious honor reflects his outstanding leadership, dedication to advancing eye care, and lifelong commitment to the field of ophthalmology. We’re proud to celebrate this incredible milestone!

The AOS is a medical society of ophthalmologists and the second oldest specialty medical society in the United States. Dr. Mieler has served as a member of the AOS Council (2018-23), the Chair of the Council (2022-23), and now as President (2025-26).

Did you know that most fireworks injuries happen between mid-June and mid-July? July is and with July 4th just a month away, our Department is reminding everyone that fireworks may cause devastating eye injuries. Fireworks can cause chemical and thermal burns, corneal abrasions, and retinal detachment, which can cause permanent eye damage and vision loss. To learn more, visit: https://ow.ly/BZUW50RKO3V.
