Ascension Illinois Resurrection Medical Center is an award-winning, academic teaching hospital located on the northwest side of Chicago that offers private patient rooms and world-class health care. As a full-service, comprehensive medical center, we offer state-of-the-art tertiary-type care in a community based setting. Our facilities are currently taking precautions to help keep patients and visitors safe, which may include conducting screenings, restricting visitors, masking in areas of high community transmission and practicing distancing for compassionate, safe care. We continuously monitor COVID-19 guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and adjust our safety practices and safeguards accordingly.

🌟 A new year, a new chapter 🌟

This fall, 25 student interns are beginning their training at Ascension Alexian Brothers Behavioral Health Hospital. These future therapists, counselors, and psychologists are taking their first steps toward careers devoted to healing minds and strengthening communities. 💙

For more than a decade, our hospital has been a trusted training ground for the next generation of mental health professionals — shaping 98 psychologists, 218 master’s-level therapists, and 24 prescribing psychologists. That legacy continues today under the leadership of Marie Duetsch, Director of Student Training, whose dedication has guided so many into this vital work.

Because behavioral health care is not only about what happens today. It is about preparing for tomorrow — ensuring that more people have access to compassionate, highly skilled providers when they need them most. 🌱

✨ Breaking new ground at Ascension Alexian Brothers ✨

Our research team has officially enrolled the first patient in Illinois in the ALT-FLOW II Trial, a national study exploring a new treatment for patients with heart failure who continue to struggle with symptoms even after standard care.

As one of only two hospitals in the state selected to participate, Ascension Alexian Brothers is helping lead the way toward new hope for patients living with heart failure. This achievement was made possible by the leadership of Dr. Haryani and the dedication of our entire cardiovascular research team. 💙

👉 Who may qualify:
• An ejection fraction greater than 40 percent
• NYHA class II–IV heart failure
• A history of heart failure hospitalization or elevated BNP
• No severe valvular disease
• No CS leads

👉 Patients to think about:
• Post-valve patients (TAVR, TEER, TTVR) who are still short of breath
• Patients whose 30-day or 1-year Kansas City Cardiomyopathy Questionnaire score has not improved after valve intervention
• Post-ablation patients with ongoing shortness of breath

Enrollment is open now but expected to close by the end of the year. If you or someone you know may qualify, please reach out to Dr. Pop or Dr. Haryani for more information.

Research like this represents more than innovation — it represents possibility. And for patients and families affected by heart failure, that possibility can mean a better quality of life.

🍎✨ Back-to-school season isn’t just about books and backpacks — it’s about making sure kids have the mental, emotional, and social support they need to thrive.

Last week, we welcomed local teachers, school nurses, social workers, and community professionals to Ascension Alexian Brothers Behavioral Health Hospital for our Back to School Celebration.

Together, we laughed, learned, and connected with the clinicians who will be walking alongside students through every triumph and tough day this year.

Together, we’re building a stronger foundation for the students in our community — one that includes care, compassion, and support for every challenge that may arise.

✨ Feel Good Friday ✨

For Samantha C., LCSW, ACM, every call is a chance to show someone they’re not alone.

One patient kept reaching out, unsure if anyone would really follow through. Samantha made sure she always answered — no matter how many times the phone rang. Over time, that consistency built trust, reminding him that care at Ascension Illinois isn’t just about services — it’s about people who show up.

That same dedication has shaped Samantha’s 11 years with our Population Health team. From creating programs that smooth the transition from hospital to home, to mentoring new case managers, her work is rooted in one belief: every person deserves to feel supported at every step of their health journey.

We’re proud to celebrate Samantha this week for the impact she continues to make — one conversation, one connection, one patient at a time. 💙

✨ Pain doesn’t just live in the body — it lingers in the mind, the spirit, the daily rhythms of life. And when one opinion leaves you with more questions than answers, it’s easy to feel boxed in.

That’s why seeking a second opinion isn’t about doubt. It’s about possibility. It’s about opening a window where a door felt closed.

Dr. Ankur Dave, MD, brings a multidisciplinary, patient-first approach to pain management — from advanced interventional procedures to strategies that restore quality of life. His focus: listening, uncovering overlooked options, and creating treatment plans as unique as the people he serves.

Because relief shouldn’t feel out of reach. And your next step forward might begin with simply asking, “What else is possible?”

💙 September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men (excluding skin cancer) — but with early detection, survival rates improve dramatically.

That is why Ascension Illinois is committed to raising awareness, providing education, and making screenings accessible. Together with Hanover Township, our teams at Ascension Alexian Brothers and Ascension Saint Alexius offered no-cost screenings for eligible community members. 🙌

Events like this are about more than lab results. They are about peace of mind, prevention, and making sure families get more time together.

A special thank you to our Cancer Institute team and partners who make this mission possible. 🌟

Screening saves lives. If you are 50–75, or younger with risk factors, talk to your doctor about when it is right for you.
