Chicago Illinois 365

Chicago Illinois 365 'Chi-Town' or 'The Windy City' Chicago is the 3rd most populous US city and according to Forbes Magazine, the 5th most economically powerful city in the world.

It was founded as an important portage city between the Great Lakes and the Mississippi River watershed, before the creation of the Chicago River Canal connected the two bodies of water and Chicago became the largest economic hub of the Midwest. Chicago has amazing architecture, blues & jazz music, originally styled cuisine, two major league baseball teams, the Bears, the Bulls, recent world Champion Blackhawks, a hot shopping district (the Miracle Mile), and so many other things that they can't possibly be listed here. Being located along the southwestern shore of Lake Michigan, Chicago receives a cool breeze during the summers and people love flocking to the shore's beaches. It's unique 'L' system provides train service throughout the metro area and there is always something going on in Chi Town.

Looking for a great place to eat in Chicago's South Loop? You just HAVE TO try ! The ambiance is comfortably chic, the service was impeccable and the food was A-MAZING!

My enjoyment started as soon as I walked in! We were immediately situated in deep comfy seats. I started with a drink called "The Heiress" - so good that I had 3 of them🍸🍸🍸 (unusual for me) and I totally enjoyed the caviar and shrimp deviled eggs. 🍤I ate the mussels 🦪🦪so fast that I forgot to photograph my dish!😆 I love a good steak🥩 and they got it right. I savored everything that I ordered. The food and service was excellent!! If you get the opportunity, definitely go to Southern Chicago (2000 South Wabash Ave) for their happy hour or just dine in!

Did you know that yesterday - Tuesday, March 4th was Chicago's 188th Birthday?

Article by: Sara Yaniga

Did you know Chicago is turning 188 years old on March 4? That’s right—our beloved Windy City has been dazzling the world with its towering skyline, rich history, and unbeatable deep-dish pizza since 1837! And what better way to honor Chicago’s big day than with some family-friendly fun?

Whether you’re a lifelong local or new to the city, celebrating Chicago’s birthday is a great excuse to explore iconic landmarks, indulge in local treats, and teach your kids what makes this city so special. From tasty Chicago-style eats to outdoor adventures and creative crafts, here are some easy and exciting ways your family can celebrate 188 years of Chicago greatness.

1. Visit a Chicago Landmark
Skydeck at Willis Tower or 360 CHICAGO at the Hancock for panoramic city views. (free until Friday)

Chicago History Museum — they often have special events or exhibits about the city's past.

Take a family selfie at "The Bean" (Cloud Gate) in Millennium Park.

2. Birthday Treats, Chicago-Style
Enjoy a slice of deep-dish pizza from iconic spots like Lou Malnati’s or Giordano’s.

Visit a local bakery for Chicago-themed cupcakes or cookies—maybe even bake your own at home and decorate them with Chicago's flag colors!

3. Family Movie Night: Chicago Edition
Watch family-friendly movies set in Chicago, like Ferris Bueller's Day Off or Home Alone.

Pair it with popcorn from Garrett Popcorn Shops for an authentic touch.

4. Neighborhood Scavenger Hunt
Create a simple scavenger hunt with Chicago-themed items: murals, L trains, historic buildings, or even certain foods.

End the hunt with a small birthday cake for the city!

5. Read Chicago Stories Together
Visit your local library and pick out children's books about Chicago or by Chicago authors.

Some recommendations: **Larry Gets Lost in Chicago or Good Night Chicago for younger kids.

6. Take a Birthday Walk or Bike Ride
Stroll along the Chicago Riverwalk or the Lakefront Trail to admire the city’s skyline and nature.

Bring Chicago-themed snacks or have a picnic if the weather allows.

7. Chicago Birthday Craft
Make Chicago flag art using construction paper.

Create a 3D city skyline using recycled materials.

8. Learn About Chicago’s History
Share fun facts: Did you know the city was incorporated on March 4, 1837?

Talk about how Chicago rebuilt after the Great Chicago Fire or how it became known for its architecture.

9. Support Local Businesses
Order takeout from a local restaurant that’s been around for generations.

Buy Chicago-themed merchandise or books from local shops.

10. Share Birthday Wishes
Post a family video singing happy birthday to Chicago on social media.

Use hashtags like or and tag local museums or organizations celebrating the day.
