"Can therapy help me if I'm also taking medication?"

In this week's Therapy Thursday video, Dr. Monica is sharing why therapy and medication can work beautifully together, and why you don't have to choose one over the other.

Medication is an amazing tool for supporting mental health. But taken in conjunction with therapy, it can do wonders.

While medication can help regulate symptoms, therapy gives you the space to work through patterns, deal with issues and trauma, and build the tools to truly heal, not just manage.

Watch Dr. Monica break it down, and let us know your thoughts in the comments.

We're continuing to bust common mental health myths this Mental Health Awareness Month.

Myth: I should be able to handle this on my own, it's just a normal life change.

Fact: "Normal" transitions like graduating, moving, getting married, having a baby, changing careers, or retiring are some of the most stressful events humans experience.

Just because something is common doesn't mean it's easy. These milestones often involve shifts in identity, routine, relationships, and expectations, all at once.

If you're navigating a big life change, we're here to help.

"How do I know what to ask for in therapy?"

It's a question we hear often, and the truth is, there's no one right answer. Therapy is about you and what you need, and that can look different from one person to the next.

Dr. Monica has some great tips on how to begin talking with your therapist, whether you're walking in with a clear goal or just a feeling that something needs to shift.

Don't let being unsure how to begin stop you from starting your therapy journey. The right therapist will help you find the words.

We’re continuing to use Mental Health Awareness Month, as an opportunity to bust some of the most common myths about therapy and mental health.

🌿 Myth: A therapist will never understand my background or culture.

✨ Fact: A good therapist sees your culture as a source of strength and context — not something to be fixed. Your background, traditions, family dynamics, and community shape who you are, and the right therapist will honor that.

If a therapist doesn't, they're not the right therapist for you, and that's worth knowing. You deserve care that sees the full picture of who you are.

Have questions about finding a culturally affirming therapist? We're here to help.

"I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it."
— Nelson Mandela

Courage doesn't always look like boldness or fearlessness. Sometimes, it looks like getting out of bed on a hard day. Setting a boundary. Asking for help. Showing up, even when you're scared.

In this week's Therapy Thursday video, Dr. Monica reminds us that courage doesn't need to roar to be valuable and present.

Sometimes the quietest acts of courage are the most powerful ones.

Sometimes the highest-achieving people, the ones who look like they have it all together, are actually suffering from anxiety.

The engine driving that success isn't passion or peace. It's a relentless, buzzing roar of anxiety.

This is the reality of High-Functioning Anxiety (HFA). From the outside, it looks like ambition, productivity, and "having it all together." On the inside, it can feel like exhaustion, perfectionism, racing thoughts, and the constant fear of falling behind.

If this resonates with you, you're not alone, and there are ways to start finding relief.

💭 Myth: "Going to therapy to talk about family struggles makes me disloyal."

✨ Truth: It doesn't. And here's why.

Many cultures place a strong emphasis on keeping personal and family matters private, and that sense of loyalty is meaningful and worth honoring. But therapy isn't about airing grievances or betraying the people you love. It's a confidential space, protected by law, where you can process your experiences with a trained professional.

In fact, working through family dynamics in therapy can actually strengthen your relationships. When you have the tools to manage stress, communicate clearly, and set healthy boundaries, you're better able to show up for the people who matter most.

Caring for yourself is not a betrayal. It's part of how you keep loving others well.
