We had a wonderful time last weekend at UChicago Medicine Ingalls Memorial Hospital as part of our ongoing, collaborative "SeniorLife Brain Health" series.

UChicago Medicine Neurologist Dr. Karen Orjuela shared valuable insights on what "120 over 80" really means and how blood pressure affects your memory and cognitive functioning. It was an engaging and informative session that reinforced the importance of managing blood pressure not just for heart health, but for brain health too.

We're excited to continue these important conversations! We hope you will join us for our next series session where we will be discussing menopause and its impact on brain health. Stay tuned for more details!

April is National Minority Health Month. Health outcomes are not the same for everyone, and that matters. Many communities face higher rates of Alzheimer’s disease, heart disease, and diabetes due to differences in access to care, environment, and representation in research.

At the HAARC Center, we focus on inclusive research, strong community partnerships, and advancing healthy aging for all. When research includes everyone, solutions improve for everyone. .

We are proud to celebrate Phyllis Timpo, Director of Community Engagement and Outreach at the HAARC Center, on receiving a University Diversity Leadership Award last week!

This recognition honors individuals and initiatives that advance diversity of thought, perspective, and experience across the University. Phyllis’ leadership has strengthened community partnerships, expanded outreach, and helped ensure our work reaches and reflects the communities we serve.

Her impact is felt across everything we do, and this recognition is incredibly well deserved. Congratulations, Phyllis!

Dr. Rogalski recently presented on SuperAging at the Chicago PrimeTimers March social.

It was inspiring to be in a room filled with the vibrant community that PrimeTimers has built for gay, bisexual, and transmasculine older adults. Spaces like this are critical. For many LGBTQ+ older adults who have historically faced stigma, discrimination, and barriers to care community is not just meaningful, it is essential for connection, support, and well-being. We are grateful for the opportunity to share our work and connect with this incredible community!

Last month, we partnered with Rush Alzheimer's Disease Center, Northwestern Medicine, and the Far South Chicago Coalition for a Dementia & Alzheimer’s information session + game day at Project HOOD Communities.

Our team joined an expert panel on caregiving and shared information about dementia, brain health, and resources for families and caregivers. It was a great opportunity to connect with seniors on Chicago’s South Side through education, conversation, and fun! We are proud to collaborate with partners who are committed to supporting older adults, strengthening caregiver resources, and expanding community awareness around brain health.

This National Social Work Month, we recognize and celebrate the incredible impact of social workers in our community.

At the The University of Chicago, we are especially grateful for individuals like Roshnee and Renee, whose compassion, dedication, and expertise help support patients, families, and research every day. Their work is essential to advancing care, strengthening connections, and ensuring that people feel seen and supported.

We are thankful for all that they do—and for the vital role social workers play in the work we do every day.

Last Saturday, we partnered with South Loop Village to present at the Chicago Women’s History Conference 2026.

It was an honor to lead a session on demystifying dementia and to share information across the full spectrum of cognitive aging, from dementia to SuperAging Research Initiative. We also explored the role of risk and resilience in women and why brain health is such an essential part of Women’s Health.

These conversations matter, and we are grateful to help raise awareness and share knowledge, especially during .
