to close out our anniversary month, we of course have to highlight our one and only dr nga phan!

here’s what she has to say about being an eye doctor and blink:

-why did you become an eye doctor? I always joke that my eyes were so bad that I went to the eye doctor so much as a child that I stayed and became one. I chose optometry because I remember really seeing the world for the first time in my first pair of glasses and what a huge impact that made on my life, so why not have a career where I can do that for others on a daily basis. It just fills my heart when I see a patient’s face light up when they can truly see for the first time, that’s what it’s all about!

-what do you love about blink? blink is like my fourth child! I absolutely love everything about blink and so proud to call blink mine. I truly have the best team and so thankful that they share my vision and passion in providing the best care for our patients. I also have the best patients; some have become like family to us, and it’s so rewarding and special to see their families year after year! Every day I walk up to blink and feel so blessed to get to do what I love!

today we are highlighting two very special members of our team as we can continue to celebrate our anniversary month!

introducing joseph and riley! joseph has worked with dr phan at her previous practice for many years and they have such a special rapport that she asked him to be a part of blink! and riley holds a very special place in dr phan’s heart because she has known riley since riley was 3 years old and is a mentor for riley today ❤️

what do you love most about blink?

joseph: one of the things I love most about blink is the warm, welcoming atmosphere that makes you feel like part of the family as soon as you step inside.

riley: working with an amazing team and the way we support each other like family!

we ❤️ joseph & riley!

Just as we shared back 2017, once again today we will experience an extraordinary solar eclipse, and the advice and precautions remain the same as we shared back then.

Here in Chicago, the eclipse is only partial so there is absolutely NO safe time to look or stare directly at the sun without any proper protection even at its peak at ~2:07pm, there is only ~94% coverage.

Please make sure your solar eclipse glasses have the ISO 12312-2 certification and please test them out before using them today. You should not be able to see anything through these glasses besides the sun; there are many fake glasses being sold everywhere, even on Amazon! Also make sure the solar eclipse glasses fit properly and are covering your eyes the entire time that you are viewing the eclipse in Chicago today. These solar eclipse glasses are usually made for adults so please make sure they fit your child’s face properly and are in place the entire time if they are also viewing the solar eclipse.

Remember irreversible damage to your eyes can occur in 30 seconds or less. If you have any signs of solar retinopathy after viewing today’s eclipse such as the following:

-blurry vision
-headache
-a blind spot in your central vision in one or both eyes
-increased sensitivity to light
-distorted vision, in which a straight line looks bent
-changes in the way you see color, known as "dyschromatopsia"

Please call our office immediately for assistance!

Be safe everyone!
