Mind Freedom Consulting

Mind Freedom Consulting Hi! I’m Maria, a Licensed Psychotherapist in IL offering a grounded, compassionate space for you to heal, reconnect, and grow. Bilingual in English and Russian.

I support clients through life transitions, anxiety, depression, trauma, stress, and ADHD. Mind Freedom Consulting was created from the belief that liberation begins within. When we understand our patterns, emotions, and values, we reclaim our ability to choose — not react. This work opens the door to more conscious living, healthier relationships, and a stronger sense of self. Maria Shenkman, MA, LCPC, founded Mind Freedom Consulting to support individuals in navigating life’s complexities with clarity and resilience. She received her Master’s in Clinical Psychology in 2010 and has been practicing in private practice, school settings, community organizations, and executive counseling environments. Her multicultural background and dedication to integral psychology allow her to meet clients with both depth and practicality. Maria’s therapeutic approach integrates evidence-based treatment, mindfulness skills, and experiential methods to help clients build emotional intelligence, increase self-awareness, and create meaningful change. She offers a warm, grounded space where clients can explore challenges at their own pace, strengthen inner resources, and reconnect with the parts of themselves that have long been overlooked or suppressed. My name is Maria Shenkman, MA, LCPC, and I provide therapy for adolescents, young adults, and adults who are ready to understand themselves more deeply and create a meaningful shift in their lives. Whether you’re navigating anxiety, depression, identity issues, trauma, ADHD, or simply trying to hold yourself together through a difficult season — you don’t have to do it alone. I bring an integrative, evidence-based approach shaped by my advanced training in Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (C-DBT), and ADHD Clinical Services. My style is gentle but active — I’m here to help you understand what’s happening inside, untangle emotional patterns, and build the tools you need to feel more grounded, confident, and in control. For many of my clients, therapy becomes a space to breathe, reset, reconnect with their values, and begin building a life that feels aligned with who they truly are. I offer:

• Secure telehealth across Illinois
• Sessions in English and Russian
• Support for immigrant and multicultural identities

Please read the text and the interpretation! Amazing message! I would add my own reminder, the difference is that we can unprogramm ourselves and play our own game. If you start seeing the difficulties you are faced with in life as warning signs and act on your right to change, you can alter the course set for you and take your life back.

What’s the moral of your story?

When you think about your life, does it resemble a certain scenario?

Are there common situations that are occurring over and over again?

When you pay attention to the situations that keep happening, you may start noticing certain commonalities between them.

As you keep paying attention, your ability to make conclusions from different situations/events will also improve.

When you learn your lessons, they will stop repeating.

Sometimes it may take several attempts to understand something.

Don’t worry it’s all about trial and error.

If you are supposed to learn from history, start with yours!

Learn your lessons and you will find out the moral behind your story.

It will teach you how to understand and treat yourself.

It will give you an advantage of changing your scenario the way you see fit.

Change is hard only when we resist it.

If it doesn't seem that way, it's due to delusions created by your mind for survival purposes!

When we embrace change and not view it as a threat, we experience a perception shift.

Embracing change leads to a deep understanding of who you are and what you are meant to do in this life.

Self-discovery is liberating and ultimately leads to a meaningful life.

Making sense of your life experiences brings purpose to your life.

Recognizing and letting go of fears leads to gaining control of what’s happening.

Change may be scary but necessary for any type of evolution.

Resistance always has a purpose. Figuring it out removes barriers on the way to freedom.

Everything we do has results and consequences. Paying attention to what they are aids in understanding what’s driving your behaviors.

If something seems difficult, try to make it fun.

You set the course for everything that's happening in your life, so it's up to you to change it.

What separates you from people who are known to be good at something? Could that just be fears, doubts, disbelief, and misconceptions that don't let you explore what you are really capable of?

People admire performance and celebrate ability. We get amazed by the achievements of others acknowledging the effort that was put into making something happen. No doubt that there are people with distinct abilities, however, all of us are talented in our own way, it's just a matter of discovering where our power lies and pursuing what draws us. Some are more curious, courageous and persistent than others at exploring their interests and that's what makes them stand out, not talent or innate ability.

What if I told you that believing that you can train and improve your skills and abilities is a better predictor of success than having an actual ability. Research has shown that people who believe that their intelligence, abilities and personal characteristics can be developed with time are more likely to achieve their goals in life than those who think that everything is inherited and predetermined.

Of course, there will be fear, doubt, and self-consciousness that will keep interfering. All of us have that but for some people, they are stepping stones, and for others they are obstacles. When your mind is clouded by what is impossible, it will not come up with perfect scenarios and not leave room for learning new skills.

So stop worrying about not having skills and abilities, anything can be improved on with time and the right attitude. Allow your mind to work on what can be developed by exploring your interests and turning them into something that drives you. Support yourself by believing that you can learn and change by investing some effort into it.

Don't hesitate to try yourself at what sparks your curiosity, even if it's just for twenty to thirty minutes a day. It will accumulate if you purposefully and continuously do it.

Why play?

Because it's fun and the research shows that goal achievement has to be enjoyable.
Remember how exciting it was to play and discover new qualities and abilities, and learn more about others? Why do games work so great?

While playing transformational games, we can live through different life scenarios, situations, and model out many possibilities. A game is like a mirror, it reflects our familiar patterns and choice-making strategies that we can then analyze and change. A game allows us to get away from common perceptions and decision-making patterns.

Have you ever wondered why it's easier to solve other people's issues than our own? Because we can see more objectively from the outside than from the inside. A lot of times, it is quite challenging to view a situation as a whole when you are in it, since past experiences, habits, and especially emotions interfere.

What is happening with us is crucial and tends to influence us emotionally. Thus, we are limited to the usual way of looking at things, making it difficult to be objective and see new possibilities.
