Mid-Month Check-In: How Is Your Body Today? -

Valentine’s season is loud about love. Flowers. Romance. Grand gestures. But rarely do we talk about the quiet relationship you have with yourself — the one your body has been trying to maintain with you all along.

Today we honor the life and legacy of Reverend Jesse Jackson.
A leader. An organizer. A voice that refused to be silenced.
Through faith, courage, and relentless advocacy, he helped push this country closer to the promise of justice and equal opportunity. His work reminded us that civil rights is not a moment in history — it is ongoing work.

May we continue building on the foundation he helped lay.

Rest in power.

You learned this to survive — not because you’re broken.

Self-abandonment is often praised as strength:
✨ Being low-maintenance
✨ Being easygoing
✨ Being the strong one
✨ Not asking for too much

But underneath it is a nervous system that learned:
“It’s safer to disconnect from myself than to risk rejection, conflict, or harm.”

For many Black women, this pattern isn’t random. It’s generational. Cultural. Protective.

Ignoring your needs.
Silencing your intuition.
Prioritizing safety over truth.

That wasn’t weakness.
That was strategy.

The work now?
Learning how to stay connected to yourself — even when it feels unfamiliar.
Learning that your needs are not burdens.
Learning that truth doesn’t have to cost you belonging.

You are not broken.
You adapted.

And now you get to choose differently.
