Post-operative shivering is a frequently encountered complication in the recovery room following both general and regional anesthesia. It manifests as involuntary muscle activity that serves as the body’s attempt to regulate core temperature. Effective management is essential for improving patient outcomes and comfort.

Succinylcholine is a depolarizing neuromuscular blocker that plays a central role in rapid sequence intubation (RSI), a critical and time-sensitive procedure often performed in emergency departments, operating rooms, and intensive care units. RSI is commonly used when immediate airway control is required in patients at risk of aspiration or when spontaneous breathing is unexpectedly compromised. Succinylcholine is widely preferred in this setting due to its rapid onset and short duration of action, providing the necessary conditions for effective emergency intubation.

Succinylcholine is a depolarizing neuromuscular blocker in rapid sequence intubation, an important procedure in intensive care units.

Sugammadex is a newer neuromuscular blockade reversal agent which was approved for use in the United States in 2015. Neostigmine, another reversal agent, exerts its neuromuscular blockade reversing effects against non-depolarizing neuromuscular blocking agents through reversible inhibition of acetylcholinesterase, thereby increasing the concentration of presynaptic acetylcholine to facilitate skeletal muscle contraction.

Nitrous oxide, also known as N2O, is commonly used for anesthesia in dental and surgical procedures. Its mechanism of action involves depressing the central nervous system‘s activity. N2O stabilizes axonal membranes, partially inhibiting action potentials and leading to sedation...

While there are several benefits of nitrous oxide anesthesia, there are also several drawbacks, with additional strong environmental arguments against its use.

Pulse oximetry is a non-invasive method used to measure blood oxygen saturation (SpO2), a critical parameter in monitoring patients’ respiratory status. However, recent research and clinical observations have raised concerns about the accuracy of pulse oximeter readings across different skin tones. Understanding these effects is essential for healthcare providers to ensure accurate diagnosis and treatment.

Intravenous (IV) extravasation, the unintentional leakage of injected drugs from blood vessels into the surrounding tissue, is a potential complication during surgical procedures.

Furthermore, continuous monitoring of the infusion site is crucial for early detection and management of IV extravasation.
