At CommunityHealth, we understand the tremendous needs of the uninsured population in Chicago– a population that continues to grow in today’s economic climate. Thanks to an innovative and highly effective model supported by volunteerism, philanthropy and partnerships, CommunityHealth will provide 30,000 medical and dental visits at our West Town location this year for over 9,000 patients. physicians, nurses, dentists, counselors, donors (individuals, foundations, corporations, etc.) and various institutional (e.g. hospitals, medical schools, universities/graduate programs) and community partners recognize the critical role that CommunityHealth is playing in the health of those in our society who would otherwise go without care they need. While primary care is the cornerstone of our mission, CommunityHealth is a full service, appointment-based medical home providing more than 20 specialty services (from cardiology to ultrasound), health education, case management and social work (available both on-site and through formal referral partners). Join CommunityHealth at the All In Celebration, happening on September 25th, where we will be celebrating our community and achievements. At the Celebration, we will present the Catalyst for Care Award to the AbbVie Foundation, in recognition of their partnership to expand our microsite model. With the AbbVie Foundation’s support, we are able to bring care closer to home for many underserved Chicago residents.

The AbbVie Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit working to drive transformative change in communities worldwide so that everyone can live their healthiest life. They are committed to advancing health equity in communities around the world through innovative, multi-year partnerships and employee impact programs.

Earlier this year, with the AbbVie Foundation’s support, we opened our third microsite: CommunityHealth at The Resurrection Project. This new location is a significant step forward in our mission to make health care accessible to all.

As President Donald Trump’s deportation efforts in Chicago scale up, health care providers are promoting telehealth for people in immigrant communities. They say it’s too soon to assess the impact of Trump’s campaign, which is expected to last about six weeks, but they are prepared.

“Any time there is a wave of increased ICE activity, we will see a wave of patients opting to cancel appointments or do them by telehealth,” said Steph Willding, CEO of CommunityHealth, a primary and specialty care provider that treats uninsured adults and many immigrants.

CommunityHealth shines the Volunteer Spotlight on Dr. Barbara Shaw as our August Volunteer of the Month!

Dr. Shaw joined CommunityHealth in October of 2021, volunteering a total of 160 hour to our clinic. As one of the first providers to join the team when CommunityHealth opened a microsite at Enlace Chicago, Dr. Shaw has been serving patients at that location every month since then.

Known for her resourcefulness and creativity in finding solutions to her patients’ worries, Dr. Shaw fits well into the ever-adapting nature of our microsite model. Outside of clinical work. Dr. Shaw has hosted a handful of educational sessions for other providers, and was even a speaker at our All In event last year.
