Saturday August 23, 2025 Dr. Daniel Hryhorczuk and Dr. Timothy Erickson will participate in a panel exploring the environmental impact of war.
“Bombs don’t just break buildings — they poison everything that keeps us alive.” Dr. Daniel Hryhorczuk.
Burned forests don’t grow back overnight. Destroyed farmland takes years to heal. Some contamination may last for generations. At this panel, we’ll discuss the long-term ecological toll of war — and how to rebuild a future that’s not only safe but also sustainable.

Care One Pharmacy in Niles Illinois donated over 23 boxes of IV medication. UMANA Illinois members and supporters loaded the medications which will go out to Ukraine in the next week or two.

Several UMANA members Mariya Dmytriv-Kapeniak Maryana Yaremkoko attended the Solstice Serenade at the Ukrainian Institute of Modern Art yesterday. UIMA was founded by former UMANA President Dr. Achilles Chreptowsky and artists Konstantin Milonadis and Mychajlo Orban. Under the leadership of President Ms. Motria Melnyk several fundraisers have benefited UMANA and the work we do. Visit and support UIMA, a unique part of Chicago's Ukrainian Village.

Over 30 graduates and medical students attended in person or through ZOOM the UMANA Illinois Helping Ukrainian Doctors Rebuild their Medical Careers program. Speakers included doctors preparing for ECFMG certification as well as doctors who have been accepted to residencies; Ihor Kohut, Andrii Labchuk, Lillia Varenytsia, Yuliana Kvasha. Long time residency and medical education director Marko Jachtorowycz summarized 30 years of first hand knowledge and experience of the residency application process.

Illinois Chapter's Medical Relief committee UMANA Illinois continues their blue bag project sending surgical supplies to the front. Hundreds of pounds of instruments were packed ready for delivery.

UMANA Illinois chapter members met to learn the the most recent information about cannabis use especially in senior patients with pain and dementia. Luba Andrus, RPH, M.J. who has extensive expertise in pharmacy ownership, healthcare operations, cannabis therapeutics, home care & long term care care, and medication therapy explained the various products now available.
A nice brunch was held at Foxtail by the Lake in Des Plaines.

The 75th Gala Anniversary of UMANA was attended by many members and supporters. A film history of UMANA was viewed following by featured speaker Dr George Hrycelak “History is not done with UMANA”. A celebratory sparkler was lit on a cake and President Dr Lopatynska led all participants in singing Mnohaya Lita !
