Several of the 2026 UMANA Debutantes (along with their mothers) continue their charitable work projects by packing meals for children all over the world (including Ukraine) at the Feed my Starving Children center. Good job ladies!

I was honored to meet with Dr Anastasia Furtak (L) who visited the UMANA office today. She is in Chicago for her induction as a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. She is a general surgeon who practices in Lviv at the Ukrainian Catholic University clinic. Congratulations Dr. Furtak ! If any of you surgeons are at the meeting, look for her!

Burned forests don’t grow back overnight. Destroyed farmland takes years to heal. Some contamination may last for generations. At this panel, we’ll discuss the long-term ecological toll of war — and how to rebuild a future that’s not only safe but also sustainable.

Care One Pharmacy in Niles Illinois donated over 23 boxes of IV medication. UMANA Illinois members and supporters loaded the medications which will go out to Ukraine in the next week or two.

Several UMANA members Mariya Dmytriv-Kapeniak Maryana Yaremkoko attended the Solstice Serenade at the Ukrainian Institute of Modern Art yesterday. UIMA was founded by former UMANA President Dr. Achilles Chreptowsky and artists Konstantin Milonadis and Mychajlo Orban. Under the leadership of President Ms. Motria Melnyk several fundraisers have benefited UMANA and the work we do. Visit and support UIMA, a unique part of Chicago's Ukrainian Village.

Over 30 graduates and medical students attended in person or through ZOOM the UMANA Illinois Helping Ukrainian Doctors Rebuild their Medical Careers program. Speakers included doctors preparing for ECFMG certification as well as doctors who have been accepted to residencies; Ihor Kohut, Andrii Labchuk, Lillia Varenytsia, Yuliana Kvasha. Long time residency and medical education director Marko Jachtorowycz summarized 30 years of first hand knowledge and experience of the residency application process.
