🔐 Protecting Ourselves from Scams & Fraud 🔐

Yesterday, we had the privilege of welcoming Norman “Skip” Gonsoulin, Jr., Sr. Community Outreach Liaison from the Office of Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul.

Skip shared valuable information with our residents on how to recognize and prevent fraud and scams—an important topic for all of us. We’re grateful for the opportunity to learn from his expertise and stay empowered with knowledge! 💡

A lifelong Southsider and proud Hyde Parker, Gladys brings a love of connection, community, and Key Lime Pie! She’s retired from Illinois Bell, devoted to her church of 70+ years, and always on the move—whether it’s water aerobics or Caribbean getaways.

Coordinating around everyone’s unique schedules isn’t easy, but it was so rewarding to see those smiles. 😊

💛🖤❤️💚 Honoring Juneteenth at Montgomery Place 💛🖤❤️💚

In recognition of Juneteenth, our Employee Success Committee created a bulletin board to help educate and inspire. With thoughtful contributions from Marisol, Robert, Bread, Rachel, and John Rurka, it shares the powerful story behind this important day in American history.

What is Juneteenth?
On June 19, 1865—two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation—enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas were finally informed of their freedom. Juneteenth commemorates that day and marks the end of slavery in the United States.

We celebrate freedom, resilience, and progress, and we honor the past while continuing to strive for equality and justice for all.

Thank you to our team for helping keep this history visible and meaningful.

🌟 Betsy’s Road to Recovery 🌟

A story of courage, faith, and incredible strength.

When Betsy arrived at Montgomery Place, she was in the midst of a difficult cancer journey. Exhausted from treatments and physically depleted, she faced what felt like an uphill climb. But from the very beginning, Betsy’s spirit shone through. ✨

She wasn’t alone on this journey. Her devoted husband Maurice, her sister Fatima (who also served as her nurse), her loving sister Khallada, and her supportive parents were by her side every step of the way — lifting her with love, prayer, and constant encouragement. 💛

And here at Montgomery Place, Betsy found a second circle of strength — our dedicated care team. Nurses Fatima, Jennifer, Latasha, Evita, Shayla, Carol, and Melody poured their hearts into her healing. Her therapy team — Nick, Camille, and Kelly — became her biggest cheerleaders, creating personalized plans to help her rebuild strength and confidence. 💪🩺

Day by day, Betsy worked hard. Every milestone, every small victory, added up. She didn’t just survive — she thrived.Her determination inspired everyone around her, turning moments of struggle into hope.

Today, we are thrilled to share that Betsy is going home.🏡

Her words say it best:
“After a long and grueling journey, I finally see the light at the end of the tunnel.”
