About Project WISH
Project WISH is a clinical research site of the Division of Infectious Diseases at the University of Illinois at Chicago, with a 20+ year history of conducting clinical trials and basic science research for the prevention and treatment of many infectious diseases. Throughout our history, Project WISH has been primarily devoted to the search for a vaccine against HIV, as well as treatment drugs and vaccines for infectious diseases.
NEST is being conducting to address the syphilis epidemic occurring across the United States. By administering an online questionnaire to participants, this study seeks to understand how social and s*xual contacts, s*xual behavior and health care utilization contribute to new syphilis infections among MSM in Chicago.
This study hopes to enhance public health interventions to reduce syphilis transmission. Despite syphilis being a clinically relevant disease for centuries, we continue to lack knowledge regarding the immune response to syphilis. Current diagnostic testing lacks distinction between new and previously treated syphilis infection.
As a component of this study, participant blood, urine and saliva will be collected to study the immune response to enhance current diagnostic testing for syphilis.
