π¦· Client Story: Restoring Jaw Mobility & Reducing TMJ Pain π¦·
I recently started working with a client who, after a routine teeth cleaning, began experiencing severe pain and partial loss of jaw mobility. What should have been a simple procedure turned into a painful experience, leading to TMJ issues that disrupted his daily life.
Unfortunately, this isnβt as uncommon as it may seem. Dental procedures, especially those involving prolonged jaw opening, can sometimes strain the temporomandibular joint (TMJ), leading to pain, discomfort, and reduced mobility.
We are now on session 3 of his treatment, focusing on manual therapy techniques to restore jaw function and alleviate pain. The progress weβve made so far is promisingβeach session brings more relief and improved movement, helping him regain control of his life.
**What Can Be Done?**
For dental professionals:
- **Support Jaw Position:** Always support the jaw during procedures, especially lengthy ones.
- **Frequent Breaks:** Allow the patient to close their mouth and relax the jaw at intervals.
- **Gentle Approach:** Use gentle techniques, particularly during cleanings and other procedures that require jaw opening.
For clients:
- **Speak Up:** If youβre feeling discomfort or pain during a procedure, let your dentist or hygienist know immediately.
- **Advocate for Yourself:** Donβt hesitate to request breaks, a different approach, or additional support to ensure your comfort.
Your health and comfort are paramount, and itβs important to feel empowered to advocate for yourself during any medical or dental procedure.
Together, through tailored TMJ therapy, weβre working towards full recovery. Remember, your voice matters in your healthcare journey! πͺ
