Shriners Children's Chicago provides specialty pediatric care to children up to age 18 with orthopedic issues from regular to rare. We specialize in care related to cerebral palsy, club foot, scoliosis and a variety of rare diseases. We also treat spinal cord injuries in kids, offer plastic surgery including craniofacial, cleft lip and cleft palate repair, and pediatric rehabilitation in a friendly, family-centered environment. Every clinic visit, procedure, surgical admission, and rehabilitation appointment is provided regardless of the family's ability to pay. The list of accepted insurance providers continues to grow, and includes Medicaid. We are part of a network of more than 20 care facilities with locations in the United States, Canada and Mexico. Our mission is to improve the lives of children by providing innovative pediatric specialty care, cutting-edge research, and outstanding medical education. Come see our spacious activity mall with space for wheelchair sports, games and an indoor playground. We also have a large adapted outdoor playground and an award winning 4000 sq ft patient garden. We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, relying on the generous donations of Shriners and the general public to carry out our mission and change the lives of children everyday.

Raising Awareness - Spinal Cord Injury

This month, in honor of Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Month, we’re sharing powerful stories from patients, families, and physicians—highlighting the real-life journeys, challenges, and breakthroughs in SCI. When RaeAnne was just an infant, her family faced a life-changing diagnosis: transverse myelitis, a rare sShriners Children's Chicago inflammation. A second opinion Shriners Children's Chicago confirmed the condition — and the care she needed. She later developed scoliosis, an abnormal curve in the spine, which can have a major impact in a child’s life.

👉 Did you know? Up to 96% of children who experience an SCI before age 5 go on to develop scoliosis. At Shriners Children’s, we’re raising awareness this to help more families recognize the signs and get the care they need.

The Shriners Children’s SCI team from across our healthcare system is well represented at the Academy of Spinal Cord Injury Professionals (ASCIP) conference. ASCIP focuses on advancing spinal cord care through research, education, and improving the quality of life for patients.
