🌀 Whacky Wednesday at Clubhouse! 🧴🖐️

Our OT sessions got a little silly today—with shaving cream fun! Beyond the giggles and mess, this sensory play is packed with benefits: it helps kids build tactile tolerance, fine motor skills, and early pre-writing abilities, all while having a blast.

Whacky, yes—but all part of the plan! 💥🧠💪

🎶 Therapist Tip Tuesday ⏳
Turn nursery rhymes into timers for tricky routines! 💡🦷🎵

Daily tasks like brushing teeth or trimming nails aren’t always a favorite—and that’s okay! Using short songs like nursery rhymes can make these moments feel more predictable and fun.

Try this:

🪥 Sing It Out: Use “Twinkle, Twinkle” or “Row, Row, Row Your Boat” as a natural timer for less preferred activities like brushing teeth, washing faces, or diaper changes.

🎵 Start to Finish: These songs have a clear beginning and end—helping your child understand, “When the song is over, we’re done!”

🧠 Build Routine + Comfort: Repeating the same song for specific tasks can make them feel safe, familiar, and even enjoyable!

It’s a simple trick that turns stress into smiles—one verse at a time. 💫

Classic games like Hide and Seek or Hot and Cold = language gold! 🎯🗣️

These simple games are packed with fun and opportunities to build language skills—right at home!

Here’s how to make the most of playtime:

🗺️ Narrate the Search: Use location words to model phrases like, “Is Johnny behind the door?” or “Is the teddy under the blanket?” This helps kids understand and use prepositions naturally.

🐻 Use Toys if Needed: Not quite ready to play with people? Hide stuffed animals and help your child search—still just as fun and full of learning!

🔥❄️ Play Hot and Cold: Guide your child’s search with clues like, “You’re getting warmer!” or “Ooh, that’s cold!” It builds listening, problem-solving, and understanding spatial relationships.

Play is the perfect setting for language to bloom! 🌱

📚 Therapist Tip Tuesday 📚
Touch-and-feel books are perfect for little learners! 🐶✨👶

These interactive books aren’t just fun—they’re an amazing tool for early language development and building attention for reading.

Here’s how you can use them to support speech and language goals at home:

🗣 Verbal Labeling: Encourage your child to say what they see and feel—“Dog! Soft!”

👉 Point & Touch: Try questions like “Where’s the dog?” to build comprehension and expressive skills.

💡 Action Words in Action: Use phrases like “Touch the sheep” or “Turn the page” to build understanding of everyday action words.

⏳ Sustained Attention: These books are extra motivating, helping your child stay engaged longer with stories and pictures.

Touch-and-feel books turn reading into a full sensory experience—and that’s where the magic happens! ✨

👩‍🍳 Therapist Tip Tuesday 👨‍🍳
Kids learn a lot about food just by interacting with it—no pressure to eat required! 🍎🥦🍝

Getting kids involved in the kitchen is a fun, low-stress way to build positive experiences with food. Here are a few simple ways to include them:

🧁 Invite Them In: Let them help measure, pour, stir, and mix. These small jobs build big confidence (and motor skills too!).

🍽 Meal Helpers: Encourage your child to serve or pass food at the table. It builds independence and connection with others during meals.

🌿 Get Fancy with Garnishes: Let them decorate plates with herbs, fruit slices, or toppings. Making food look fun helps it feel more approachable!

👏 When kids feel like a helpful part of mealtime, they’re more likely to feel proud, empowered, and excited to explore new foods.

🎉 Therapist Tip Tuesday 🎉
All kids love stickers! 🦄🌟🦖

Stickers aren’t just fun—they’re a powerful tool for language development too! Here are a few playful ways to turn sticker time into learning time:

✅ Reinforcement & Rewards: Use stickers as a motivator! Have your child say a target word 3 times before they earn their sticker. Bonus points if the sticker matches the speech sound they’re working on!

🎨 Descriptive Language: Let your child pick a favorite character or cartoon sticker and describe it in detail. What color is it? What does it do? Why do they like it?

📍 Following Directions: Try giving simple instructions like, “Put the purple dinosaur next to the tree.” Great for building listening and comprehension!

🔁 Reusable Sticker Scenes: These are AMAZING for practicing vocabulary, pronouns, prepositions, and answering wh-questions—all through play.

💬 Stickers are more than just sticky—they’re speechie gold! 🙌

If we had to choose just one game for our therapy toolkit—this would be it! 💼🎯

These colorful pieces are more than just fun—they help kiddos work on:
🧠 Cognitive skills (think patterns & planning!)
🤲 Fine motor coordination
🎯 Hand-eye coordination
🤝 Turn-taking & social interaction

We start simple (random placement), then level up to patterns and eventually the full game! Bonus: Hide the pieces in a rice bin or Mardi Gras bead box for a sensory twist! 🌈💡

🦃🍂 Happy Thanksgiving! 🍁✨

This season, let’s not just feast on delicious food but also explore some helpful therapy strategies for those picky eaters around the table! 🍽️❤️

Here are a few tips to make the meal more enjoyable for everyone:

1. Create a Colorful Plate: Encourage kids (and adults!) to fill their plates with a rainbow of veggies. A little visual appeal can go a long way! 🌈🥕🍅

2. Family Cooking Time: Get everyone involved in the kitchen! When picky eaters help prepare the meal, they’re more likely to try new dishes. 🍳👩‍🍳

3. Try a Taste Test: Set up a fun taste-testing station with small bites of different dishes. It’s a low-pressure way to explore new flavors! 🍴🤤

4. Talk About Food: Share stories or fun facts about each dish. Making it personal can spark interest! 🗣️✨

5. Don’t Force It: Remember, it’s okay if they don’t try everything. Celebrate small victories and keep it fun! 🎉🙌

Let’s make this Thanksgiving a time for connection, creativity, and maybe a little culinary adventure! 🥳 What are your favorite strategies for picky eaters? Share below! 👇❤️
