Reflex integration supports the foundation for how children move, focus, and regulate. 🧠✨

Primitive reflexes help babies survive and grow—but as children develop, those reflexes should naturally integrate. When they don’t, everyday tasks like sitting still, coordinating movements, or managing big feelings can feel much harder than they need to be.

Through play-based, movement-focused therapy, we help support the nervous system so children can build stronger foundations for learning and independence. It’s not about forcing skills—it’s about helping the body feel organized and ready.

✨ Representation matters—and today, it took a meaningful step forward. ✨

Mattel has debuted its first Barbie with autism, thoughtfully designed in collaboration with autistic self-advocates and clinicians. From sensory-friendly clothing and textures to tools that reflect real lived experiences, this doll helps normalize neurodiversity in a powerful, accessible way.

In pediatric therapy, we see every day how representation supports identity, confidence, and connection. When children see themselves reflected in toys, media, and play, it opens the door to conversations about differences, strengths, and inclusion—both at home and in therapy sessions.

For parents, this can be a simple but impactful way to talk about autism with siblings and peers.
For therapists, it’s another reminder that play is not “just play”—it’s a vehicle for learning, understanding, and belonging.

We had a spooktacular time at our Trunk or Treat this weekend — and couldn’t resist sharing some Halloween-inspired therapy fun! 👻

Try these festive therapy tips at home to mix play with practice:
🧠 Speech Tip: Practice articulation by naming costume items (“mask,” “cape,” “witch hat”) or describing what you see!
✋ OT Tip: Work on fine motor skills by peeling stickers, opening candy wrappers, or stringing orange and black beads.
🚶 PT Tip: Create a mini “Monster Walk” obstacle course for balance, coordination, and a good giggle.
💬 Social Tip: Encourage your child to practice greetings like “Trick or Treat!” or “Thank you!” to build confidence in social interactions.

🎶 Therapist Tip Tuesday ⏳
Turn nursery rhymes into timers for tricky routines! 💡🦷🎵

Daily tasks like brushing teeth or trimming nails aren’t always a favorite—and that’s okay! Using short songs like nursery rhymes can make these moments feel more predictable and fun.

Try this:

🪥 Sing It Out: Use “Twinkle, Twinkle” or “Row, Row, Row Your Boat” as a natural timer for less preferred activities like brushing teeth, washing faces, or diaper changes.

🎵 Start to Finish: These songs have a clear beginning and end—helping your child understand, “When the song is over, we’re done!”

🧠 Build Routine + Comfort: Repeating the same song for specific tasks can make them feel safe, familiar, and even enjoyable!

Classic games like Hide and Seek or Hot and Cold = language gold! 🎯🗣️

These simple games are packed with fun and opportunities to build language skills—right at home!

Here’s how to make the most of playtime:

🗺️ Narrate the Search: Use location words to model phrases like, “Is Johnny behind the door?” or “Is the teddy under the blanket?” This helps kids understand and use prepositions naturally.

🐻 Use Toys if Needed: Not quite ready to play with people? Hide stuffed animals and help your child search—still just as fun and full of learning!

🔥❄️ Play Hot and Cold: Guide your child’s search with clues like, “You’re getting warmer!” or “Ooh, that’s cold!” It builds listening, problem-solving, and understanding spatial relationships.
