Chi-Town Shakti is a ShambhavAnanda Yoga� Affiliate Center, part of the extended family of ShambhavAnanda� Yoga. We are committed to this lineage of yoga and have been given the blessing of Sri Shambhavananda to share these authentic teachings with you. When you connect with us, you are tapping into a reservoir of spiritual energy and a vibrant community of practitioners that can serve you along the path of your growth. In 2008, a small group of our practitioners, led by husband and wife team, Akaram and Bhakti White, opened the doors of Chi-Town Shakti. The group had dreamed of having their own space to explore this ancient tradition of Yoga in a present practice. Their hard work combined with heart work laid the foundation for a space where the energy just feels special. In 2016, Bhakti and Akaram relocated to Colorado to be near family and our teacher, Babaji Shambhavananda. Since then, dedicated ShambhavAnanda Yoga™ practitioners, Aasha Elliott and Elena Tinaglia graciously took the reins and good karmic fortune as co-owners of Chi-Town Shakti. Aasha and Elena are carrying on the dream of leading a studio where the rich and authentic practices of ShambhavAnanda Yoga™ remain true. The studio stands as a unique gem in the Chicago Yoga community offering a depth of experience that comes from the dedicated teachers and practitioners who not only teach, but truly live the practice of Yoga. “The Great Night of Shiva” begins today and continues throughout the night - February 15th through 16th (in 2026). It is said to be the night when Shiva performed the great dance of creation and dissolution. For there to be birth, there must be death - a surrendering of what was to honor what will be - with each and every breath and in each given moment. We also celebrate the divine union of Shiva and Parvati on this day - uniting the creative force of Shakti with Consciousness.

Some practitioners choose to fast in honor of this transformative time. Others chant mantras all throughout the night. The benefits of chanting Shiva mantras will expand exponentially on this auspicious holiday. OM Namah Shivaya. Jai Shiva Om!

Cozy up in your comfiest pair of pajamas for 2 luxurious hours of restorative yoga in the soft glow of candlelight. Your softest blankets, favorite pillows and stuffies are also welcome. Kirstin will gently guide you through a series of restorative yoga asana - shapes held for 5 minutes or more, while luxuriously supported by props such as bolsters, blocks, blankets etc. Surrender, release, and renew. Enjoy an extended savasana before floating home and melting right into bed!

It was lovely to spend the afternoon with so many of you for our annual Medicine Buddha Mantra Soak. We wish you a peaceful and intentional New Year, rich with Compassion, Love and Joy. 🩷
We know the New Year sparks excitement for all the changes you wish to make and the habits you wish to cultivate, but be EASY on yourself. Extremes encourage opposite extremes. If you wish to practice yoga more? Maybe you commit to one or two classes per week rather than vowing to attend all 7 days. Maybe this is an unexpected message from a business who survives on people attending classes and programming, but truly we wish to support your longevity, your tenacity, and your ongoing wellbeing. Commitment in smaller doses at first will help you flourish over time. We wish to support you in maintaining a lifelong practice of cultivating overall joy and peace - in body, mind and soul. Starting a yoga practice may feel intimidating with the strange names of the postures, coordinating breath and movement, and feeling like others know more than you...but here at Chi-Town Shakti, we welcome newbies (and those who wish to refine their practice) to the practice with our In-Person, In-Studio Introduction to Yoga Series!

Join us for 3 consecutive weeks to learn how yoga is about MUCH more than just stretching! In this workshop-style class, we will explain the physical postures to help you understand your own alignment, work with understanding and experiencing how the breath moves in the body, and begin to touch on some simple meditation techniques to help calm the thought waves of the mind.

As students, you are encouraged to ask questions, take notes and/or experiment with different variations of a posture to help support and nourish your practice! We believe yoga is for everyone. Each person’s expression and experience of each yoga posture is unique and we celebrate this diversity. Yoga is truly about connecting within, embodying breath and movement and feeling into one’s own unique expression through practice.

Beginners are welcome to join as well as those looking for a refresher or a workshop-style class where alignment and basic yogic concepts are discussed in more detail. We hope you will leave this class feeling confident and ready to attend a group yoga class while also beginning to explore and experience how yoga uniquely supports YOU.
Series includes access to all in-person Yoga Basics classes between week 1 and 3! That’s 3 1.5 hour sessions plus 6 classes, all for $80!
