Since 1983, New Moms, Inc. has been the lead Chicagoland agency providing long-term assistance to struggling, impoverished adolescent parents, who are pregnant or parenting, and their children. We assist hundreds of families each year by providing a loving, safe and stable environment and personal and career-readiness tools. New Moms helps participants develop personalized plans to define and achieve their goals, and transform their futures. No longer dependent on society, participants take control of their lives and achieve economic independence and family stability. Programs to develop both parent and child include:

Parents as Teachers provides support to help adolescent mothers learn to be their children' s first, best teacher, and ultimately help break the cycle of unplanned pregnancy. Community Outreach provides comprehensive, individualized service planning and crisis intervention for moms (aged 13-21) and children who are at risk for homelessness. The Cooperative Living Program provides supportive housing for adolescent parents (18-24) and their children. The facility accommodates 23 moms and up to 33 children at any one time, with an ideal length of stay of 24 months-providing families the opportunity to work toward their goals. The Academy of Professional Development provides crucial career-readiness support and life skills counseling, as well as assessments of vocational interests and aptitudes. A 4-month paid internship in each participant's chosen career field, along with childcare assistance, gives participants an opportunity to work toward economic independence. New Kids provides basic school-readiness activities, allowing participants' children to learn and develop while their parents attend New Moms program activities. All programs focus on strengthening the family unit, identifying and meeting needs and connecting peers in similar situations.
