Zich is an Internist specializing in both Internal Medicine and Emergency Medicine based in Chicago, Illinois. Since 2001, Dr. Zich has served as Assistant Professor of Medicine, teaching and practicing both Internal Medicine and Emergency Medicine at Northwestern Memorial Hospital (NMH) and Feinberg School of Medicine. He has been recognized for his outstanding evidence-based teaching, clinical acumen, bedside manner and compassionate interactions with patients. He has contributed to chapters in multiple textbooks and is recognized as a Fellow of both the American College of Physicians and the American College of Emergency Physicians, denoting high achievement and fulfillment of rigorous professional standards for both specialties. Dr. Zich obtained his undergraduate training at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He graduated with honors from the College of Engineering with a major in Material Science Engineering and a minor in Biomedical Engineering. He attended medical school at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine, entering with a quarter-time research position in the area of spine research. He was selected for one year of additional intensive training in a pathology externship before entering his clinical rotations. During his clinical years he was awarded the Oxford Clerkship allowing him to spend two months as an honorary member of Green College at Oxford University, studying both Internal Medicine and Emergency Medicine (Accident and Emergency) at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, England. At graduation from medical school he was awarded the Hancher Finkbine Medallion, one of the highest awards given at University of Iowa. Dr. Zich subsequently completed a dual-training residency at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where he became board eligible for both Internal Medicine and Emergency Medicine. He was Chief Resident his final year. While at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Dr. Zich has been a reliable source of medical information for both local and national media. He has appeared on the Oprah Winfrey Show, news spots on NBC Nightly News, the Today Show, Good Morning America, as well as all major local Chicago networks, including recurring segments on Fox News at Noon. He has been quoted in print on CNN.com, as well as the Chicago Tribune, the Sun Times and Health Magazine. His radio appearances have included WLS, WBBM, and WGN radio. In addition, he appeared with Senator Dick Durbin, Assistant Majority Leader of the US Senate, for news conferences to raise awareness about the dangers of non-FDA regulated dietary supplements. To better align his schedule with those of his family, Dr. Zich has decided to move to a private medical practice in July of 2013 and is looking forward to creating lasting patient relationships. He is joining Dr. Steven DeAngeles, a respected private internist of more than 20 years who provides excellent care for some of the most influential people in the greater Chicago area and beyond. Dr. Zich still maintains an assistant professorship at Feinberg School of Medicine as well as clinical ties to Northwestern Memorial. In addition, he plans to continue working with the media outlets to get important health messages to the general public. As an Assistant Professor at one of the country’s top academic hospitals, Dr. Zich has to stay aware of the latest medical information, the most recent treatment recommendations, and maintain a comfort with cutting edge technological advancements in diagnosis and treatment options. He has made it a part of his life’s routine to keep his knowledge current and stay ahead of those doctors he is educating. Most General Internists are board certified only in the field of Internal Medicine. Dr. Zich is boarded both in Internal Medicine and Emergency Medicine. He has actively practiced and taught both specialties for 12 years and brings an extra field of knowledge to the exam room. Dr. Zich's experience through the Oxford Clerkship gives him a global insight that incorporates positive aspects of national and international philosophies to benefit you. Teaching and working at a top academic health care institution has given him a deep understanding of what makes us human. On the Internal Medicine service he has taken care of patients that only a major tertiary care facility could manage. He has also worked and taught extensively in the Emergency Department in the heart of Chicago that has over 90,000 patient-visits annually. Through twelve years in this position, Dr. Zich has coped with a wide variety of situations and people, from emergently delivering babies, to talking late into the night with patients who have just received a terminal diagnosis. He now brings this broad experience and an intense interest in cultivating personal relationships to the private practice setting.
