COALITION CALL TO ACTION: Do YOU know a child that has been bullied because of their background? SB673, the Cross-Cultural Mediation Amongst Students Act, will be heard in the Senate Education Committee this TUESDAY, the 13th of April. This important piece of legislation will automatically trigger a mediation process when students experience bias-based bullying. SB673 will create restorative justice measures in lieu of traditional punishments like expulsion and detention that have proven to be ineffective at promoting longterm understanding. This will also be an early intervention among youth as it pertains to the possibility of adult hate crimes in Illinois.
