🚨 📺 TV APPEARANCE ALERT!
As the heatwave continues in the midwest 🥵🌡, please be mindful of keeping yourself and your loved ones safe and cool 🧊, especially our older adults.
I had the pleasure of speaking with CBS Chicago's Darius Johnson during my latest earlier this week about this important health issue (link below 👇).
Here are four tips to help you and your loved ones safely beat the heat and keep C.O.O.L:
C - Check on seniors regularly! Ensure they have working air conditioning or fans and access to water. Offer to run errands (pick up medications, groceries, etc.) for our seniors so they can avoid being outside during this time.
O - Optimize your hydration. Keep plenty of water on hand. Add slices of lemon, lime, oranges, or strawberries to your water to enhance the taste. Consume foods with high water content (cucumber, watermelon, blueberries, celery, lettuce).
O - Outfit yourself in light-colored, loose-fitting clothing made from breathable fabrics that wick away sweat. This promotes evaporative (air) cooling, which draws heat away from the body to keep you cool.
L - Limit time spent outdoors during peak sun exposure (typically between 10 AM and 4 PM). Seek shade if you must be outdoors, and wear protective gear (sunglasses, hat, sunscreen).
Experts said people should avoid outdoor activity if possible, drink plenty of water, and wear sunscreen if they do go outside.
