Medlife UIC is a chapter of MEDLIFE that was founded at The University of Illinois at Chicago in 2014. MEDLIFE is a non profit organization that coordinates 'mobile clinics' all around the world. The main purpose of these clinics is to travel the planet and provide medical care, education, community development and service projects to low-income communities. Medlife UIC as a chapter not only pride
s itself in participating in mobile clinics but also in local volunteer opportunities. These include working with schools and hospitals in addition to hosting fundraising events and spreading awareness on campus. During mobile clinics students can spend 1-2 weeks in the communities in India, Ecuador, and/or Tanzania working alongside local doctors to help provide medical care to community dwellers. Students also participate in a community development project, such as building a staircase or bathroom to leave a sustainable and lasting impact. Medlife UIC works with any and all students regardless of the field of study. Students of all majors (pre-health, business, engineering, media etc.) are invited and welcomed as there is a need for every career path. This is a fabulous opportunity for all students, regardless of major or year in school. It will enhance students' resumes, as it will provide exciting experiences to plan events, fund-raise, travel abroad and work with health professionals to aid patients. Furthermore volunteers will gain valuable leadership skills, network with other students from around the world, and shadow doctors and dentists.
