In 2011, NASC was awarded its fourth three-year accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF). NASC is a state of Illinois Department of Human Services/Department of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse (DHS/DASA) licensed treatment service provider and is Medicaid certified. We are located at 1330 South Kostner Avenue in Chicago in the North Lawndale Community. Our service area also includes Austin, East Garfield, West Garfield and surrounding areas. Population Served
Our current population is nearly 450 patients –approximately 80% of which do not have financial resources to pay for treatment services. The NASC patient population is predominately African-American (81%) with Hispanics/Latinos comprising about 9% , white, non-Hispanics accounting for 7% and other including mixed race totaling 3%. Nearly 70% of the NASC current patient population resides in our primary service area. Reflective of the general characteristics of residents of these West side community areas, approximately 75% percent of NASC patients are unemployed, on public assistance and/or have not completed high school. NASC currently provides outpatient substance abuse treatment, Methadone Maintenance as an adjunct to treatment, HIV Counseling, Testing and Education, Substance Use screening in community settings, mental health screening for all NASC patients, psychiatric assessment, individual and group counseling for substance abuse and mental health issues, domestic violence support case management, and parent education services. NASC has experience providing programs that integrate behavioral health treatment and other services. Special Populations
We also provide a range of counseling services and addiction programs for our general and priority populations – of which are individuals from the criminal justice system. As designated by Department of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse (DASA), our priority populations are Injection Drug Users (IDUs), pregnant IDU's, people living with HIV/AIDS, Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) related clients, DCFS clients and those from Treatment Alternatives for Special Clients (TASC). We have several DASA funded programs – Opioid Maintenance Therapy (OMT), Addiction Services for Families in Transition, Male/Family Reunification. Diversity
NASC also has the capabilities to provide services in Spanish. This includes counseling, nursing and medical services. NASC conducts groups in Spanish specific to the needs of the Latino community. HIP will employ at least one counselor who speaks Spanish, and will ensure that all program materials are translated to Spanish. NASC staff participates in annual cultural competency training.
