Most people don't realize this: your ears are naturally self-cleaning — through two mechanisms.
First, the skin of your ear canal grows outward from the eardrum like your fingernails. Researchers painted a dot of non-toxic ink onto the eardrum. Over the following months, that dot slowly migrated outward along the canal and exited completely — like a conveyor belt.
Second, everyday jaw movement helps move things along. Chewing, talking, yawning — it all nudges earwax toward the exit.
