Data modernization plays a critical role to ensure public health workers and agencies receive data from the health care system and can respond to daily public health threats of all types. Unfortunately, these efforts across the country have been interrupted and, in some cases, completely halted by recent Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) funding terminations.

ADLM joins numerous organizations to request $340 million annually for public health data modernization at the CDC.

Newborn screening is one of the most successful public health programs in the U.S., serving nearly 4 million infants each year and saving thousands of babies’ lives. But the sudden termination of the Advisory Committee on Heritable Disorders in Newborns and Children, a key group that has served as the nation’s chief newborn screening advisory body, will put newborns at risk for preventable death and suffering.

ADLM and over 270 organizations are asking Congress to reinstate the committee’s lifesaving work without delay.

Although fair payment for laboratory tests and protection for patients against excessive lab bills are vital to a lab’s success, there’s a notable lack of general knowledge among large groups of laboratorians regarding the basic functions and challenges of the fee-for-service system for test payment.
This scientific session takes a deep dive into the laboratory payment system, including the pricing of tests and the administrative rules for determining the payment of claims by insurers and patients.
