Nilusha is passionate about salsa, cumbia, and bachata dancing 💃, enjoys practicing yoga 🧘, learning new languages 🌍, gardening 🌱, and traveling the world ✈️.

“Caring for patients in today’s world, especially at Helping Hands where we serve mostly immigrants, will be an eye-opening real-world experience for the fellow to see the complexities and nuances of social determinants of health. Big day at our Evanston/Skokie Health Center! 🌟

Our Fellowship Program Director Kiersten Solis met with Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky — thank you for your support and continued advocacy for community health centers! 💙

She also connected with our amazing leaders at Evanston/Skokie Health Center— Desiree Solis, Syed Alavi, MD, and Nicole Kazee — all working together to keep our communities healthy and strong. 🙌

🌟 Today, our AdvancingPractice fellows proudly walked alongside the amazing Erie team at the AIDS Run & Walk in support of our Erie Lending Hands for Life program. 🏃‍♀️❤️

Every step/run taken was for our patients living with HIV/AIDS—raising crucial funds to provide:

🍎 Food vouchers for those facing food insecurity
🚇 Ventra cards so patients can get to their appointments and access essential services
💊 Medication support when other resources fall short

We’re walking—and working—for health equity, dignity, and care that reaches everyone who needs it.

📚✨ Wrapping Up SIM Lab Orientation! 🩺💡

Our incoming APRN fellows just completed two intensive days of simulation-based training in collaboration with our incredible affiliated partners at UIC. 💪
Using high-fidelity manikins and realistic clinical scenarios, the fellows engaged in real-time decision-making, teamwork, and case-based discussions that reflect the complex challenges they’ll face in practice.
This hands-on experience was an essential step in building clinical confidence, sharpening critical thinking, and fostering collaboration from day one.
A huge thank you to our affiliating partners at UIC for supporting such a valuable and immersive learning environment.

I was drawn to Erie’s fellowship program because its mission aligns closely with my own, particularly its deep commitment to community health and health equity. I aim to foster long-term trust with patients and their families by connecting them with the resources they need.
