Opening up a discussion with the women in your family about their fertility history can be a very empowering stepping stone as you navigate your fertility journey. In this way you can create an empathetic space to talk about fertility experiences, struggles or even past traumas. These conversations can lead to much-needed insight into your own fertility health and prepare you for what could be ahead.

Although it might not be easy at first, being open and staying positive throughout the conversation can eventually create a safe space for fertility history to become a normal topic to discuss together.

Did you know stress and anxiety can affect our health, and oftentimes, it can even interfere with fertility? While our overall health should always take priority, it's important to show ourselves a little kindness now and again to take care of our mental health. Kick off July by indulging in the summer season with this month’s self-care regime.

☀️ Soak up some Vitamin D: Vitamin D is known to help alleviate signs of depression and does wonders for our immune systems. Why not take advantage of the warm weather by having a picnic with friends, venture on a bike ride, dip in the pool, or just enjoy a nice summer walk?

👩‍🌾 Visit your local farmer’s market: Support local vendors and incorporate fresh fruits and veggies into your diet for a healthy body, and healthy mind.

🌱 Practice and improve your green thumb: Grow a veggie garden of your own or spruce up your garden with new plants and florals.

🍦 Stay cool with an icy treat: Learn to make a new icy snack to cool down against the summer heat.

However you decide enjoy your summer, remember to show yourself some kindness!

The final stage along your IVF journey is embryo transfer, when the fertilized egg — now an embryo — is placed in your uterus. 🥚🌱

The procedure involves placing the embryo into a catheter, where it is then deposited into the uterus. These days only one embryo is typically transferred per cycle to minimize the chance of multiples. 👶👶👶

Once the embryo is implanted, it will hopefully continue to grow into a healthy fetus! 🤰🏼

Fertilization is the stage along your IVF journey where all the magic happens. ✨

Egg, meet S***m. 🤝

Within hours of egg retrieval, your eggs are transferred into a special culture medium and placed in an incubator to be inseminated or injected with your partner’s or donor’s s***m. 🌱

Once the fertilization process is complete, you have your embryo!

The first stage on your IVF journey is egg retrieval. 🥚

During this quick and minimally invasive surgical procedure, your doctor will collect the eggs from your ovaries. It is completely normal to feel apprehensive going in, but rest assured your doctor will make sure you are comfortable and feel no pain throughout the whole process. 🧡

Since you will be under sedation during the procedure, you should plan to have a friend or family member es**rt you safely to and from your appointment. 🤗

If you are just getting started with IVF, the process may seem mysterious or intimidating. So let’s break it down into the three main steps:

⬇️

1. Egg Retrieval 🥚

This procedure, done under sedation, is when your fertility specialist retrieves your eggs, or oocytes, from the follicles in both ovaries.

⬇️

2. Fertilization 🌱

Here’s where the magic happens! In this stage, your retrieved eggs are mixed with the s***m cells and left alone in a special culture solution for fertilization to occur.

⬇️

3. Embryo Transfer 🔁

Typically on day 5 following fertilization, the fertilized egg, now an embryo, is ready to be transferred to your uterus so it can continue to grow!

In the fertility community, we often focus on women and their roles, emotions, and struggles along their journey. But let’s not forget about men.

So we want to take a moment to send love and show our appreciation to all the fathers and father-figures out there.

You play an important role in a child’s life, and your journey to parenthood should be just supported and celebrated! 🙏

We also just want to recognize that Father’s Day can be just as hard as Mother’s Day for couples struggling to conceive. We see you, and we’re here to support you. 🧡

If you have a story about an inspirational father-figure in your life or their journey to parenthood, please share in the comments! We’d love to hear.
