Using music as a tool to support health and wellness for individuals and groups After nearly 12 years of private practice in the Chicago area, we “upgraded"!

This is a long time coming! The week Becky finished her clinical internship and completed graduate school, she received her first referral for a private client. Wanting to gain as much experience as possible, she spent 12 years practicing music therapy privately via traveling to people’s homes or to various care communities and programs to provide individual and group music therapy services while simultaneously holding positions on staff at a large skilled nursing/short term rehabilitation facility, then creating and facilitating a program for a local hospice. Now, Becky is devoting her full time to Greater Chicago Music Therapy Inc., which is the new name of her music therapy practice.

Our therapists often provide a central theme for many of the groups we do with people living with dementia to create structure and grounding. Over the past few weeks, the beginning of baseball season has been a hit! Using paddle drums to hit a ball really gets everyone in the “play ball!!” mood!

Jesse is sporting his Cubs gear while Tressa, a Michigander, is representing the Detroit Tigers! We didn’t snap a picture of our White Sox fans on the team… don’t come at us! We root root root for Chicago over here at GCMT! ⚾️

Last week, some members of the Parkinson’s Allied Resources Coalition (PARC) got together for our first in person happy hour! PARC is a network of trusted colleagues and referral partners all working together to help people living with Parkinson’s Disease enjoy their best quality of life. Thanks to all who came and thanks to our Mia for organizing!

Last week our team had the pleasure of doing a training with Chris Petrik at Elderwerks Educational Services about de-escalation. We learned preventative measures and ways to keep our clients and ourselves safe. Thank you so much to Elderwerks for designing this training for us and the needs we are seeing in the community!

Our team had a fabulous time at the 2026 Great Lakes Region Music Therapy Conference! From all we learned and everyone we met and connected with, we have come back home with our cups full and new techniques for our clinical work ready to go.
