PLEASE SHARE UPDATE.... It is with grateful hearts, we share that Shawn has received a life-saving liver transplant last night. The surgery was successful, and he is currently in the ICU, where he will remain until he is stable. While the road to recovery will take time, Shawn is filled with deep gratitude and hope- hope that he can begin to truly live again. We ask for your continued prayers for Shawn's healing and strength in the days ahead, and we also ask that you keep the donor's family in your hearts and prayers. Their selfless act during a time of loss is the reason Shawn has this chance at life, and we honor their incredible generosity. Shawn Hughes is a 62-year-old retired Chicago firefighter, U.S. Air Force veteran, and loving father and grandfather who has dedicated his entire life to serving others. Born and raised on the southwest side of Chicago, Shawn now lives in Garfield Ridge. He’s one of eight siblings, a proud veteran with four years of honorable military service, and a retired fireman who spent 24 years protecting the city he loves. As a single father, Shawn raised three children on his own and continues to care for two of his eight grandchildren, offering them the same love and stability he’s always given his family. Shawn is known for his quick wit, humor and unwavering loyalty to those he loves. Shawn loves watching baseball games, especially the Chicago White Sox.

Today, Shawn is battling advanced liver failure caused by Non-Alcoholic Steatohepatitis (NASH), a progressive disease that has significantly impacted his quality of life. Once active and full of energy, Shawn now struggles with daily tasks most of us take for granted. Simple activities like gardening, traveling to baseball games, or spending an afternoon with his grandchildren have become difficult, if not impossible. Despite these challenges, his spirit remains strong, and his love for his family and community is unwavering. Shawn urgently needs a living liver donor to survive.
