Pre-Health Professions Crash Course, which is scheduled for Saturday, November 19, 2022 in the main lecture hall of ICO’s campus. This is an all-day symposium offering our undergraduate student partners an intensive exploration into the health professions including public health, optometry, pharmacy, dentistry, and podiatry. We are saddened to share the passing of Dr. Jobe Payne. We share our condolences to the family and friends.

Dr. Jobe Payne spent a total of fifty years at the University of Illinois systems. He first arrived as an undergraduate student majoring in biology in 1950. His journey into the University of Illinois systems was inspired by his participation in Boy’s Day summer program, held in Madison, Wisconsin. He earned a bachelor’s degree in biology and a PhD from the University of Illinois Urbana–Champaign, in 1963. He arrived at the University of Illinois College of Medicine Chicago in 1963 as the first Black administrator in the college. Dr. Payne wore many hats during his tenure at the University of Illinois system - from his years as a student to being the first Black administrative staff, admission consultant in the college of Medicine, Research Assistant professor in Medical Education and culminating in becoming the first director of the newly created Urban Health Program, in 1978. He remained on board as the programs’ statistician, historian, and record keeper, until the year 2000.
