🌸 Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Day – October 15 🌸

Every year on October 15, we pause to honor the lives of babies gone too soon and to hold space for the families who carry them in their hearts.

Pregnancy loss, stillbirth, and infant loss touch far more families than many realize. While the grief is profound, no one should walk this journey alone. Today, we join in remembrance and support of parents, siblings, and loved ones who continue to carry these little ones in love and memory.

✨ At 7:00 pm local time, people around the world will light a candle for the Wave of Light, creating a continuous circle of remembrance across time zones.

💜 To all who have experienced loss—you are not alone. Your baby’s life, no matter how brief, matters. Your story matters. And your healing matters.

Let’s break the silence, offer compassion, and stand together in support.

🌸 for Breast Cancer Awareness Month 🌸

Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers in women, and it can even affect those in their reproductive years who may not yet have started or completed their families.

A breast cancer diagnosis can feel overwhelming—especially when life-saving treatments may impact fertility. But there is hope:

Today, breast cancer is often detected earlier.

Treatment options continue to improve, increasing survival and cure rates.

Advances in reproductive medicine now offer more options for fertility preservation, giving patients the chance to plan for a family in the future.

We encourage all patients to perform regular monthly breast self-exams and schedule mammograms starting at age 40. Early detection saves lives.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Along with raising awareness, we want reproductive-age women to know that a cancer diagnosis does not have to mean giving up the dream of building a family.

Before beginning life-saving treatments, patients have options to preserve fertility—whether by freezing embryos (with a partner or donor s***m) or by preserving eggs (oocytes) for future use.

At Chicago IVF, we’re here to provide guidance and support every step of the way. Learn more about fertility preservation at www.chicagoivf.com.

Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month
From the desk of Dr. Natalie Schultz:

Humans are not very adept at reproducing. If 100 rodents or rabbits mate, there would be 99 to 100 litters. In contrast, our monthly chance of pregnancy is about 20%. And to make matters worse,15% of our pregnancies, 1 in 7 conceptions, end in a miscarriage. Experiencing a miscarriage is not a rare event, and it is associated with a profound sense of loss." Chicago IVF proudly recognizes Dr. Natalie Schultz during Women in Medicine Month. Dr. Schultz represents the growing presence of female physicians in the field. According to the Association of American Medical Colleges, women are now the majority of U.S. medical school students, reaching 54.6% in the 2023–24 academic year.

Dr. Schultz has been part of the Chicago IVF team since 2018. Known by colleagues and patients alike for her dedication, she prioritizes not only treatment success but also the emotional well-being and overall health of every patient she cares for.
Here are some of Dr. Schultz’s many accomplishments:
She has an extensive academic and clinical background, with training and appointments at Harvard Medical School, the University of Texas, and the University of Illinois College of Medicine.

Her career began with an undergraduate degree in occupational therapy, before she pursued a career in medicine.

She is an expert in the treatment of polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) and has achieved exceptional outcomes with this complex condition.

Throughout her career, she has embraced a holistic approach, treating underlying causes of infertility rather than symptoms alone.

She strongly believes in patient education, with a focus on nutrition, exercise, and reducing inflammation through natural anti-inflammatory supplements, vitamins, and medications.

From the desk of Natalie Schultz, M.D.

"PCOS is a complicated metabolic disorder with numerous and varied medical and emotional sequela. A core feature is insulin resistance and the associated endocrine disorders. Women can often experience difficulty with ovulation and associated infertility. Pregnancies that occur can be at increased risk for pregnancy-induced hypertension and gestational diabetes. It is important to receive qualified medical attention to avert these problems when possible and receive appropriate and timely medical care. Other associated medical problems include acne, hirsutism, central weight gain, pre-cancerous changes in the uterine lining, dyslipidemia, and anxiety and depression. If left untreated, there can be a progression of medical problems later in life, leading to high blood pressure, elevated cholesterol, and diabetes.

The good news is that having a qualified medical team can help avert these problems through lifestyle changes, diet/proper nutrition, exercise, medications, and anti-inflammatory supplements."

September 11, 2001, is a tragic day we will never forget. Today, we honor both the victims and the first responders who risked their lives and health to rescue people. We also remember the families forever changed by this tragedy.
