If you’re attending NMAC’s Biomedical HIV Prevention Summit in Chicago, Positively Aware is planning a group photo shoot featuring 30 people living with HIV for the cover of the 30th anniversary HIV Drug Guide. PA wants to reflect the many experiences of life with HIV by portraying people of different backgrounds, ages, identities and years living with HIV.

“I knew how I wanted my hair, nails, outfit, coffin and what funeral home I wanted it to be at,” writes Kim Canady in a First Person essay. “I knew how I wanted my service and how I wanted the repast. I planned my funeral better than my own wedding that I never did get. I planned so hard for that time in my life that I let time around me pass without a life plan.”

The funding bill was presented to Florida gov. Ron DeSantis on March 18; lawmakers expect it to be signed possibly within days, though no timeline has been confirmed. Still, gaps in coverage—particularly premium assistance—remain unresolved. Biktarvy is still off the ADAP formulary and Descovy is subject to restricted use.

“Talking about HIV and prevention can feel uncomfortable,” actor-performer Keiynan Lonsdale tells Tony Morrison in a conversation for POSITIVELY AWARE.

“And I’m still learning how to talk about it myself. The more we talk, the more comfortable these conversations become. I get tested to know my status. I understand my prevention options. And I’m choosing to speak up so others can too.”

Women comprise about 18% of new HIV diagnoses in the U.S. Black women make up 47% of diagnoses among women though they represent about 13% of the U.S. female population. Of the estimated 591,475 people in the U.S. who were on PrEP in 2024, just 9% were women.

National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day is a reminder that HIV uniquely affects women—every day.
