Did you know that tight hip flexors can affect your posture ⁉️⁉️

🌟 Flexor muscles play a vital role in posture due to the fact that they connect the torso to the legs. These muscles attach at the spine, pelvis and femur. These attachments affect the bodies ability to stand up straight. Therefore, weak hip flexor muscles cause an imbalance all over the body and cause the surrounding muscles and joints to over compensate. This compensations over time can cause injury! To fix this imbalance, a hip flexor stretch will help to lengthen your tight muscles. Here are a few hip flexor stretches to help!

Do you experience frequent low back pain ⁉️⁉️

🌟 Then you just might have weak core muscles. Transverse abdominal (TA) bracing can help with that pain and muscle weakness! The TA is the deepest core muscle and wraps around the trunk from front to back. Bracing is the process of activating all of your core muscles by contracting your core and sucking in your belly button to your spine.
This exercise helps alleviate lower back pain by reducing the load on your spinal disk, which allows your lower back to be much more stable. This exercise is great for beginners and can be performed standing, seated, lying down, and even on your hands and knees!

Do you spend most of your day sitting ⁉️⁉️

🌟 Then you almost certainly experience tight hip flexors. This can also be a prevalent issue for people who ride their bikes or drive a lot. Long periods of time spent in one position can tighten muscles and stiffen joints. Stretching your hip flexors can help your hips and lower back move more freely by counteracting the effects of prolonged sitting. Stretching your hip flexors will also aid in easing pain and stiffness when you eventually rise up from a seated posture. Here are a couple stretches to help with tight hip flexors!

Do you experience ankle pain from an old injury⁉️⁉️

Well single leg balance exercises are the best way to go! Single leg balance exercises help to strengthen the muscles in your feet and also help to reduce muscle imbalances. These type of exercises strengthens stabilizing muscles, especially around the ankles, knees, and hips, reducing the risk of injuries and promoting joint health. The ankle is one of the bodies most major weightbearing structures. Due to this, weak ankles place extra demand on your other muscles and joints to provide the power or stability that you need, which can cause problems later on. Here are a couple of single leg exercises to help begin your ankle strengthening!

Cupping therapy is an ancient form of alternative medicine in which special cups are put on the skin to create suction. Some of the benefits include helping with pain, inflammation, blood flow, relaxation, and it may be used as a type of deep-tissue massage.

The fire or suction pump creates a vacuum inside the cup. This causes your skin to rise and redden as your blood vessels expand.

At our offices, we office fire cupping and dry cupping!
🔥Fire Cupping uses glass suction cups and a live fire to create suction on the skin.
🌵Dry Cupping uses rubber or plastic suction cups applied to the skin.

Do you experience pain in your heel⁉️⁉️

If so, one of the most typical reasons of heel discomfort is plantar fasciitis, which you may be experiencing. The fibrous band of tissue at the base of your foot called the plantar fascia can become overstretched and overloaded, leading to plantar fasciitis. Excessive strain brought on by ongoing recurrent stress, is the reason behind this. Your fascia then becomes less elastic as a result, which leads to pain and inflammation.

✨ Physical therapy can help with this pain, by utilizing stretching & strengthening exercises to loosen & strengthen your muscles that support your plantar fascia. Here are a few exercises to help!

Do you struggle with hamstring flexibility?? Try these exercises!

Hamstring set:
- Sit with one leg bent. Tighten the muscles on the back of your bent leg by pressing your heel into the floor. Hold for about 5 seconds and relax. Switch legs and repeat 10-12 times on each side.

Hamstring curl:
- Lie on your stomach with your knees straight. Lift the foot of one leg by bending your knee so that you bring your foot up toward your buttock. Slowly move your leg up and down. Repeat on other side 10 to 12 times.

Hip extension:
- Stand facing a wall with your hands on the wall. Keeping the knee of your leg straight, kick that leg straight back behind you and then lower your leg back to the starting position. Repeat on other side 10 to 12 times.

Hamstring wall stretch:
- Slide your leg up the wall to straighten your knee. You should feel a gentle stretch down the back of your leg. Hold the stretch for at least 1 minute to begin. Then try to lengthen the time you hold the stretch to as long as 5 minutes.

Calf stretch:
- Stand facing a wall with your hands on the wall. Put one leg about a step behind your other leg. Keeping your back leg straight and your back heel on the floor, bend your front knee and gently bring your hip and chest toward the wall until you feel a stretch in the calf of your back leg. Hold the stretch for 15 to 30 seconds.

Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) is a method of pain relief. Pads are attached to the skin and small electrical impulses are delivered to the affected area of the body.

TENS may be able to help reduce pain and muscle spasms by sending signals to the brain and spinal cord. TENS is used for muscle sprain/strains, arthritis, menstrual cramping, sports injuries, joint related pain, and more.

Make an appointment for a proper assessment to find out whether a TENS machine is appropriate for you and be taught how to use it properly.

Have you ever experienced glute pain that radiates down the leg? It might be caused by impingement of your sciatic nerve by the piriformis muscle.

Patients often report this pain feels shooting/burning down the back of their leg. The causes of piriformis syndrome often happen due to improper lifting or not warming up/cooling down after physical activity. The piriformis muscle can also be tight by periods of inactivity like sitting for long periods of time while working.

Follow these steps to stretch the piriformis muscle if you experience tightness in your glute or leg pain:
1. Lie on your back. Cross one ankle over the opposite knee.
2. Reach your hands through your legs and interlace your fingers just below the crease of your knee.
3. Pull your knee toward your chest, pausing when you feel a stretch in your glute and hip.
4. Hold there for at least five breaths then release and repeat on your other side.
