Coloring Mental Health Collective

Coloring Mental Health Collective A community organizing effort bringing together everyday ppl, practitioners, scholars, musicians & youth. Focusing on Black/Brown Mental Health & Wellness.

Amidst an American culture of genocide against Black and Brown people, the 2016 Coloring Mental Health Collective symposium will cultivate life-giving relationships and spark rigorous dialogue to accomplish emotional healing and freedom. The symposium connects a community of practitioners, scholars, musicians, youth and everyday people to holistically care for the experiences of Black and Brown pe

ople. The two foci for this year’s event are “Raging in the Valley of Black Trauma” and “Domestic Abuse.” The symposium is for awareness, research, action, and reflection. There will be scholarly presentations and strategic discussion. We will build and develop promising relationships with one another to dismantle social injustices that cause emotional suffering. Our goal is to usher in a new day of healing and freedom for Black and Brown people.

Tomorrow is the day! We look forward to seeing you tomorrow! Be well, everyone.

Coloring Mental Health Collective’s online event, "Organizing Care: Collective Healing for Black & Brown People," sponsored by CST, will be showcasing "Voices of Healing" leading up to the September 6th conference. This week, we feature Marcus Lattimore, a former All-American collegiate football player and San Francisco 49ers NFL player, Oregon’s 2024 Grand Slam Poetry Champion, and Creative Writing Teacher at Oregon Change Clinic.

When asked "What healing means to me as a black man?” Marcus said “Healing to me is a reclamation of my ancestral greatness. Being rooted in their unending love that allows me to create beautiful works of art fiercely and gracefully. It is also a practice of resisting the deep rooted psychological desire to assimilate into whiteness."

Marcus will share more about his take on healing for black men during the conference, drawing from his life experiences and gift of poetry. Learn more about the conference and register at: tinyurl.com/ywdjy5bc

Congratulations to the 2024 graduating class of Claremont School of Theology! It was a joy celebraring our new grads at CST’s new campus in Los Angeles. This year I was also the graduation marshal. Pictured here is one of my doctoral advisees, Dr. Edrees Bridges, who graduated yesterday. Very excited about his important work. Afterwards, I enjoyed relaxing a bit at my Airbnb. Made it back to Portland an hour ago and looking forward to the days ahead!
