WELCOME, JUANITA!

We have been so blessed with a truly wonderful new addition to our HOPE family, and we are so excited to officially welcome Juanita to our team!

From the moment she walked through our doors, her kindness, compassion, and beautiful heart have been impossible to miss. She has such a natural way of making everyone feel loved, comfortable, and cared for, and our guests have already grown so fond of her.

What means so much to us is hearing Juanita say that HOPE already feels like family to her, because that is exactly what we strive to create here every single day. And truthfully, she already feels like family to all of us, too!

We are incredibly grateful for the love, warmth, and genuine care she brings to HOPE, and we cannot wait for all the memories still to come.

Human connection may be one of the most overlooked and powerful forms of support in Alzheimer’s and dementia care. Inspired by reflections shared by Nehal K. Shah, CEO, NIH-PI SBIR, on Chris Hemsworth’s documentary, A Road Trip to Remember, this blog explores how familiarity, belonging, social interaction, and emotional connection may help support brain health and quality of life for those living with dementia. It also shares practical ways families can help loved ones remain connected to their memories, relationships, and sense of purpose through everyday moments of presence and care.

THANK YOU, JENNIFER! 💛

Today was such a beautiful day spent with a very dear friend and Juanita’s daughter, Jennifer, who came to visit and spend time with our guests. She is such a lovely young woman with a heart full of kindness, and it truly showed throughout the day as she joined us for our wonderful walk at Wildwood Park.

Some days are so meaningful that it is hard to find the right words. I feel incredibly grateful for moments like these and for the wonderful people who make our days so special. Today was simply beautiful. 🌿

What a beautiful day here at HOPE as we celebrated our dear friend Wendy’s birthday!

Our guests had so much fun creating colorful portraits of Wendy… they turned out great! We were also so excited to spend time with our sweet therapy dog Marley, who showed us some new tricks he has been learning. A huge thank you to his wonderful handlers, Tom and Kathy, for faithfully sharing Marley with our HOPE family each week. Your kindness and dedication mean so much to all of us. 🐾❤️

Today was made even more meaningful with our visit to Bidwell Mansion where we reflected on its rich history and participated in the community conversation surrounding its future following the 2024 fire. Together, our guests shared their own thoughts, memories, and hopes as part of the Reimagined Bidwell Mansion effort through California State Parks.

Cheers to friendships and community! Happy birthday, Wendy!

🐾 WELCOME KATE AND BASIL!

We are excited to welcome our newest therapy dog team, Basil and her handler Kate, to the HOPE family! ❤️

Therapy dogs bring comfort, companionship, and happiness to those living with memory loss. They encourage conversation, ease anxiety, and create meaningful moments for our guests each day.

A special thank you to Sadie and Resolute Dog Training for helping connect us with these incredible therapy dog teams. We are also so grateful for our wonderful therapy dog families, including Winston and Pam, and Tom, Kathy, and Marley, for the commitment, love, and comfort they continue to bring to our program.

Our guests truly light up when their furry friends arrive. Welcome, Basil and Kate! We are so happy to have you with us!

We had the absolute joy of visiting the Little Red Hen Park and Garden here in Chico, and what a truly meaningful and beautiful experience it was for our HOPE family! 🌿

We are incredibly grateful for the warm welcome and wonderful tour provided by Michael, Jose, and Karen. Their kindness, patience, and genuine passion for the program made our visit so special, and our guests thoroughly enjoyed every moment spent exploring the gardens, artwork, animals, and peaceful surroundings.

The story behind Little Red Hen makes this place even more inspiring. Founder Teresa Wolk Hayes began this incredible program years ago after her son, Alex, was diagnosed with autism. At a time when there were very limited services and opportunities available for children and adults with developmental disabilities, Teresa saw a deep need in the community and chose to create something meaningful not only for her son, but for countless other families as well. What started with one small nursery and a dream has grown into a remarkable nonprofit organization that now provides employment opportunities, educational programs, social support, and life enriching experiences for individuals with developmental disabilities throughout our community.

It is truly a place built from love, compassion, and purpose. Chico is so fortunate to have such a welcoming and inspiring program serving our community.

Thank you again to everyone at Little Red Hen for sharing your hearts with us today!

BIRTHDAY AND BIRD HOUSES!

Today we enjoyed celebrating our dear friend, Dave, and his birthday, getting out in nature, and building bird houses!

A huge thank you to Julie‘s husband, Jim, who blessed us with a birdhouse kit (handmade with all the directions) that our amazing gentlemen put together piece by piece! We are so proud of all the handy work that was put into today!

Now our feathered friends have a new home! Happy spring!
